JOB SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:
Beretta USA is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Industrial Design Engineer to join our team. The primary objective of this role is to shape the appearance (styling), ergonomics, safety, and user-interactions of industrial products, with a special focus on new and updated firearms, pro-shop firearm accessories, and product packaging.
As an Industrial Design Engineer, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that all designs meet performance, safety, and aesthetic standards while enhancing the overall user experience. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the design and development of world-class products in the firearms industry.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Drive the styling, ergonomics, and design of firearms, accessories, and product packaging, ensuring alignment with Beretta's "DNA" and quality standards.
- Collaborate with engineering and marketing teams to integrate aesthetics with functionality while prioritizing safety, usability, and user-friendliness.
- Conduct user research, testing, and gather market insights to refine designs and enhance product performance.
- Develop and refine prototypes, contributing to the creation of production-ready designs.
- Maintain consistency in design language across all product lines and stay informed on industry design trends, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Define desired product characteristics (size, shape, weight, materials, ergonomics, etc.) and create detailed design specifications, working closely with R&D teams.
- Utilize CAD and other design tools to create and visualize product concepts and prepare machine-readable instructions for automated production processes.
- Develop and maintain an anthropometric database and user profiles to guide ergonomic design and evaluate products during development.
- Manage early-stage conceptual and preliminary design projects, including project plans, schedules, and continuous feedback to R&D and Marketing teams.
- Support the development and maintenance of product specifications, ensuring compliance with design standards.
- Lead and support the development of packaging concepts and product markings, ensuring consistency across Beretta products.
- Prepare concept drawings, models, and presentations to communicate design ideas to R&D, Marketing, and Sales teams for feedback and selection.
- Assist with additional projects and perform other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is performed in a professional group office environment as well as laboratory and test range environments. Requires the ability to physically and safely test, evaluate and maintain various firearms including pistols, rifles and shotguns (semiautomatic, bolt action, pump action, fully automatic) including extensive live fire testing. Requires the ability to lift 50 lbs.
QUALIFICATIONS/ABILITIES:
- Proven experience in industrial design, preferably in the firearms, consumer products, or similar industries.
- Strong proficiency in CAD software, with experience in Siemens NX or similar platforms.
- Solid understanding of ergonomics and human-centered design principles, with experience in developing user-friendly products.
- Experience with material selection, manufacturing processes, and production methods relevant to firearms and accessories.
- Strong aesthetic and styling skills, with the ability to translate concepts into functional, visually appealing designs.
- Hands-on experience with prototype development and rapid prototyping tools.
- Knowledge of design for manufacturability and cost-effective production techniques.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams (engineering, marketing, production, etc.).
- Ability to conduct user testing and iterate designs based on feedback, ensuring high-quality, user-centric product outcomes.
EXPERIENCEEDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Industrial Design or equivalent directly related experience.
- 5+ years of practical work experience in product design, including internships or co-op positions in a design role.
- Strong creative and technical skills with a proven ability to balance aesthetics, functionality, and user experience in product design.
- Interest in and knowledge of firearms (pistols, modern sporting rifles, shotguns) and familiarity with popular products and their use in training/competition environments.
- CAD proficiency required, with expertise in advanced freeform surfacing and integrating surfacing with solid models.
- Sketching ability is a plus, with the capacity to visually communicate design ideas effectively.
