About the Role
The Associate Designer will work closely with the Head Design Manager to execute the design and development of textile products with a focus on the Flooring category for the West Elm brand. Reporting into the Head Design Manager, this role will be responsible for helping to ensure all product development deadlines and key calendar dates are met.
The position is required to be in office 4 days a week (Monday-Thursday) max 30 hours a week. (This is non-negotiable)
Responsibilities
Manage all technical specifications and communication with vendors including making comments on samples, and sending product approvals in PLM
Maintain and organize development samples both physically and digitally
Candidate should demonstrate a hands-on attitude toward product management and take initiative in driving and supporting product flow across all states.
Create and maintain visual line list decks and presentation decks
Work proactively according to development calendar to stay ahead of timelines
Create and maintain digital Pipeline
Assist into researching new ideas, fabrications, and materials
Present ideas and design concepts to Head Design Manager and category designers
Consistently research industry trends to feed design inspiration and new collection development
- Understanding of qualities and constructions, techniques, and how they affect price points, look, and end use
- Regularly shop competitors to keep abreast of trends
Criteria
MUST provide Portfolio link (including password) on resume - or link to PDF work samples with application
Degree in Textile Design or related field
Minimum 2-3 years of design work experience, preferably in-home furnishings or textiles
Experience developing product directly with factories is a plus
Must be highly efficient in Adobe Creative Suite
Must be skilled at CAD. And able to manipulate artwork, mockups and generate colorways
Passionate about design, art, color & textiles with a strong sense of color
Ability to work independently as well as with a team in a fast-paced environment
Ability to prioritize, multi-task and adapt to change
Extremely organized, efficient and detail-oriented – excellent calendar adherence and ownership
- A self- starter who is enthusiastic, adaptable, and brings a strong can-do spirit
Excellent time management and communication skills
Understanding and enthusiasm for the West Elm brand
This role requires being onsite in the Dumbo Brooklyn office

The expected starting pay range for this position is $35 - $65/hour. Applicable pay ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. In addition to competitive pay, compensation may include a variety of other components like benefits, paid time off, merit, and bonus opportunities.
