Position: Toolmaker

Hours: Full time

One liner: Amca’s first toolmaker will work with engineers to develop tools and small run production parts that rapidly convert design ideas into prototypes

Responsibilities

· Use in-depth familiarity of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) to machine tools, molds, and initial prototype parts based on desired final part geometries

· Creatively machine, fabricate and assemble plastic molds, small-run machined parts, other tooling, and prototype aerospace parts

· Perform manual milling, turning, and EDM operations

· Go from concept/rough engineering sketches to completed prototype tools and parts as quickly as possible

· Provide design for manufacturability feedback on tool and part designs

· Apply creative solutions to perform spur of the moment design and machining adjustments to achieve desired part outcomes in a fast-moving environment

· Assist with machine selection, initial machine setup and activation, and routine maintenance

● Highly organized

● Safety minded: able to maintain the highest level of safety in their workspace and their operations

● Creative: able to go from a napkin sketch to a tool or part in very short time

● Collaborative: able to work hand in hand with engineering team to do quick turn tool, mold, and part making

● Experience in metrology, machining, welding technology, and tooling

● Able to manually inspect components using conventional inspection tools

● Able to find solutions to problems using critical thinking and mechanical expertise

● Extremely high curiosity and exceptional ability to learn, allowing for successful contributions across diverse part categories and manufacturing processes

● 5+ years of experience in machining, with a focus on aerospace or high-precision components. (preference to 5 axis experience)

● Proficiency in CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, HyperMILL, or Esprit) and 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Siemens NX).

● Deep understanding of G-code, M-code, and CNC program editing.

● Ability to use and learn a variety of software to observe, analyze, evaluate, and communicate pertinent information

● Strong knowledge of GD&T, blueprint interpretation, and tolerance stack-ups.

● Hands-on experience with precision inspection tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, CMMs).

● Preferred experience machining injection mold tooling, including wire and die sinking EDM.

● U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency to comply with ITAR regulations.
