Description
St. Croix Health is looking for a part-time (0.50 FTE) ED Tech/Infusion Unit Coordinator to work in our Emergency and Infusion departments. This position will work two 8-hour weekday shifts per pay period and every 3rd weekend and holiday, 12-hour day shifts.
Job Summary:
This position is a dual-role position that will work in the Infusion/Oncology and Emergency Departments.
The Infusion Unit Coordinator is responsible for performing a variety of clerical functions to support the providers and patient care staff as well as assisting with patient care. This position enters patient calls/messages into the Electronic Medical Record database, ensure patient medical records and information that is needed is available and documented, schedules patient appointments, registers patients, and prepares applicable medical record forms. The Infusion Services Unit Coordinator answers phone calls and relays messages to care team members and other resources necessary for patient care. This position is responsible for the coordination of prior authorization for medication orders that are administered in the Infusion Centers. This position will also provide basic nursing care to patients, including obtaining/monitoring vitals with medical equipment, IV removals, and toileting.
The Emergency Department Technician (EDT) is responsible for providing direct care to patients across the age spectrum at the directions of RNs and medical providers. EDTs will assist staff in specific procedures in the Emergency Department, assist in patient flow, transport, and comfort. Will keep the unit clean, orderly, and stocked. Assures timely cleaning and turnover of patient room and of equipment that must be prepared for reprocessing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Patient Care and Support
- Transport patients by wheelchair and patient cart, direct and occasionally escort patient/family to appropriate area within facility
- Assist patients with ambulation and positioning using safe patient handling techniques
- Take and record patient vital signs and report abnormal vital signs to RN
- Inform RN of patient/family observations and/or concerns
- Promptly respond to patient call lights/requests
- Deliver efficient/excellent care to all patients on the unit(s). Duties include performing ADL’s, transferring, ambulation, dressing, toileting, turning and repositioning, feeding, bathing, etc.
- Maintain patient dignity, privacy and confidentiality
- Perform tasks with adaptations or modifications consistent with patients ages and developmental abilities
- Obtain and transport ordered specimens from patient within scope of practice
- Assist in resuscitation
- Communicate to RN if any changes in vital signs, behavior, pain level or patients needing immediate emergency care and intervention
- Performs telephone, refills and order encounters or direct communication with care team in a timely fashion to meet patient needs including requesting/obtaining patient reports as necessary.
- Effectively uses communication systems for both routine and emergency transactions and communications
- Set up and assist with procedures within scope of practice as requested
2. Coordinates activities of Care Unit to support provider and patient care staff
- Register patients in database
- Schedules are up to date and accurate, changes are made in a timely manner, and using the proper communication methods
- Demonstrate ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental levels and cultural differences of population served
- Ensure patient benefits are up to date
- Work closely with pharmacy to ensure drugs are available for scheduled patients
- Schedule patients for any testing, referrals or follow up appointments that are needed
- Document patient care activities, procedures and cares provided in the electronic medical record
- Documentation is clear, concise, accurate and timely
3. Maintain room/unit and supplies
- Restock room, supplies and room carts
- Assist with patient room clean-up between patients
- Order and maintain adequate stock of supplies needed for patient care.
- Remove and replace outdated supplies
Requirements
Education & Licensure
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Current WI Nurse Aide Registry required
- BLS certification required upon hire (American Heart Association or American Red Cross)
Experience
- At least one year of experience in a patient care position in infusion or emergency services setting preferred

Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and reaching.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
