Zaber is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with experience in electro-mechanical design and manufacturing to join our Production Engineering Team. We value candidates who are self-motivated, comfortable multitasking, and excited about improving their own skills and contributing to our designs and processes.
Your work term will be filled with challenging, hands-on projects with a mix of design work, prototyping, and project management. You will focus on the design, automation, and improvement of custom precision equipment, procedures, and fixtures used to manufacture Zaber’s products.
You'll have full access to our well-equipped machine shop, which includes a waterjet, laser cutter, lathes, and mills (both manual and CNC), in addition to help from experts on our software, firmware, testing, and mechanical design teams.
As a part of the Production Engineering team, you will contribute to the development of novel solutions and processes while working in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment. Your work will expose you to precision design and manufacturing techniques for products used in diverse fields such as photonics, biotechnology, and semiconductor engineering.
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will:
- Design, manufacture, and prototype new fixtures and equipment.
- Help troubleshoot part, assembly, and product issues.
- Prepare solid models and manufacturing drawings for new and custom assemblies using SolidWorks.
- Measure, evaluate, and improve manufacturing efficiencies.
- Collaborate with Production, Electronics, and Mechanical Engineering teams to develop and improve products and processes.
You’re the ideal Mechanical Engineer, if you have:
- Passion for mechanical systems and hands-on experience (experience with precision equipment and machine shop experience an asset).
- Experience with the integration of mechanical and electrical components (switches, sensors, actuators, pneumatics, etc.).
- Background designing parts and assemblies with CAD (Solidworks preferred)
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to self-manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
Mechanical Engineering Details:
- Wage: $24 - $28/hour depending on experience.
- Closing Date: September 22, 2025.
- Start Date: January 2026.
- Length of position: 8 months preferred, 4 months optional.
