Management Responsibilities:
- The essential function of a Lead Advanced Practice Professional falls into three categories: Clinical Oversight and Leadership; Administration; and Internal/External Legal/Regulatory issues.
Clinical oversight and Leadership:
- Co-direct the clinical, operational, and administrative initiatives of the service line in collaboration with Medical Director and unit nursing leadership team.
- Participates in departmental and organizational leadership meetings and training
- Coordinates monthly meetings with each team to discuss concerns/topics specific to those groups.
- Conduct regular meetings with the staff APPs to discuss departmental and organizational updates and address concerns. Ensure clinical competency and adherence to policy through practice analysis and case review of APPs with physicians.
- Coordinate education opportunities with providers.
- Investigate and respond to patient/family complaints from patients and families about care.
- Develop standard onboarding orientation
- Orient new staff APPs.
- Provide education to staff APPs.
- Involved in departmental decisions regarding matters that affect APP practice.
- Coordinates monthly check ins with all APPs and adjusts for staff in orientation
Administration:
- APP hiring manager
- Participates in the coaching, mentoring, and discipline of staff APPs.
- Collaborates to determine annual performance reviews and goal setting.
- Validates payroll, approve/decline PTO and CME requests and ensures APP staffing needs are met.
- Coordinate quality improvement/process improvement programs
- Monitors APP metrics: # of clinic visits and expansion plans, No Show rates, and MIPS documentation
- Responsible for communication and dissemination of information between executive leadership and service line APPs.
- Coordinate the scheduling of the APPs.
- Other duties as assigned
Internal and External Legal/Regulatory Issues:
- Ensures compliance and participates in Medical Staff initiatives, policies and procedures.
- Ensures all APPs are following company and state regulations.
- Be informed of and advocate for practice models that allow clinicians to practice at the fullest extent of their scope.
Requirements
Education and Qualifications
- Advanced Practice Nurse: Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Nursing
- Physician Assistant: Master’s degree in science or physician assistant studies
- Active RN or PA license in the state of Georgia.
Required knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of:

- Management principles and practices such as, but not limited to, employee hiring, evaluation, counseling, and termination; budgeting; and employee recognition and rewards.
Practice evaluation and process improvement:
- National professional organization and regulatory agency initiatives
- Standards of care and practice of APP roles.
- Learn and explore gastroenterology service line with emphasis on training new APPS and operational efficiency
Ability to:
- See patients in a clinic setting 20 hours/week
- Participating in hospital rounds in rotation with the GI APPs
- Serves as a clinical resource in clinic
- Crosstrain and obtain clinical competencies in Gastroenterology
- Knowledge and demonstrated clinical competence and in-depth knowledge in specialty
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- The ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with widely diverse groups, including individuals at all levels both within and outside the organization and gain their cooperation.
- Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently and meet deadlines.
- Ability to use educational strategies to influence the development of staff and the provision of quality care for patients and families.
- Communicate effectively in many venues from individual 1-on-1 sessions to a large audience.
