The position is a skilled worker in the research lab of Anna O’Brien, which is in the Department of Molecular, Cellular and Biomedical Sciences. The worker will work independently in the laboratory on molecular genetics and duckweed projects, specifically spatial transcriptomics. This position is not an essential staff position (i.e. not required to report to work during curtailment).

Duties/Responsibilities

Laboratory research investigation (80%)

  • Processing samples for spatial transcriptomics, submitting samples to the genome center, receiving and processing data, and similar.

Meetings and planning (10%)

  • Going over planned activities as needed (i.e. biweekly or monthly) with supervisor.

Laboratory maintenance (10%)

  • Package receiving, safety maintenance, ordering supplies, and similar.

Requirements

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree with some graduate research experience (1-2), or other professional research laboratory experience (1-2 yrs). This experience should include molecular genetics work and experience with duckweeds or similar plants. Additional experience may replace a degree requirement.

Required Licenses & Certifications:

  • None, though a NH Driver’s license may facilitate activities.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • The successful candidate will have experience in DNA extractions, DNA handling, cryogenics, cryostat experience, as well as basic tasks in a molecular genetics and microbiology lab (solution and media preparation, autoclaving, culturing, etc.). The successful candidate will also be familiar with the culture of plants.
