Job Description
Alterations Specialist
Bring your talent and creativity to BYU as an Alterations Specialist! You’ll tailor clothing with expert precision, consult with customers to bring their vision to life, and contribute to exciting projects for the MTC and Athletic Departments. This is your chance to do what you love in a supportive, team-oriented environment—where quality craftsmanship and attention to detail truly make a difference.
What you’ll do in this position:
- Consult with customers to write tickets with all the correct information with the necessary instructions and measurements
- Perform all the alterations and sewing requested
- Help complete all projects during the year for the MTC and the Athletic Departments
- Keep firm perimeters on turnaround timelines and types of services we offer
- Work as a team member with other members of the laundry and tailoring area
- Help with the training of new employees
What qualifies you for this role:
Required:
- Must show experience using straight stitch, serger and blind hem machines
- must be able to work quickly and efficiently in a rather busy area. Must be task oriented
- Exhibit listening and communication skills when working with customers, to find out what their needs and timeline is to complete their orders
- Must be able to take recommendations and directions from supervisor
- 5 years of proven alterations experience
- Computer experience to be able to enter orders
- Operate blind hemmer, serger machines and industrial straight stich machines
Preferred:
- 1 years of college or Trade School
- 10 years of experience

Pay Grade: 47
Typical Starting Pay: $18.50 to $23.25 an hour
