With a strong focus on grid-connected systems, you will drive the development & delivery of all electrical aspects of our advanced electromechanical hardware devices.
You'll spend your time:
- Holding responsibility for the design and development of electrical systems, architecture and hardware, for grid-connected and distributed energy systems
- Developing conceptual and detailed designs based on functional requirements, insulation coordination, regulatory standards, and grid codes
- Specifying and integrating medium- and low-voltage electrical systems, including windings, busbars, sensor and signal cables, protection equipment and other ancillary equipment.
- Owning and executing analysis and reports for electrical fields, short-circuit currents, isolation and earthing, load flow, fault analysis, magnetic design, thermal management and protection coordination
- Commissioning & executing assembly instructions with the manufacturing/assembly teams
- Managing change requests, designing control workflows for all electrical design aspects
- Defining and owning the standard testing and commissioning documentation across the product lines
- Collaborating with internal teams and external partners to deliver electrical solutions optimised for grid compliance, efficiency, and reliability
- Leading a high-performing team of electrical design engineers, providing mentorship and technical direction
- Working closely with suppliers, OEMs, and academic partners on innovation and delivery
The key experience we're looking for:
- Expert knowledge and experience designing and implementing electrical systems involving inverters, transformers, switchgear, and protection systems
- High levels of proficiency in electrical CAD and other design tools
- Proficiency in electrical modelling and simulation (e.g., load-flow and dynamic simulation, electric fields, EMTP)
- Knowledge of renewable technologies (solar, wind, storage), and how they interact with modern grid infrastructure
- Familiarity with relevant compliance and safety standards (EU and UK laws, IEC, IEEE standards, etc.)
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to drive technical teams and deliver high-quality engineering outcomes
- A collaborative approach and comfort working across interdisciplinary teams in fast-paced environments
- An understanding of factory, site testing of grid-connected design, including utility practices and connection requirements
- Matlab/Simulink and real-time control
- IEC/IEEE/ANSI/UL standards for transformers, switchgear and power converters
- Strong analytical skills to diagnose and resolve field or prototype issues and use of tools such as power analysers, oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers
- Medium voltage training and certification, high power testing
