Job Description
The Engineer II - Optics is a key contributor to the Optics product creation team and will be tasked with leading finished good engineering for various product classes, including but not limited to connected cameras, binoculars, rifle scopes, & laser range finders. The person who fills this role would drive whole product engineering from ideation through initial production, working collaboratively with colleagues across the R&D organization along with key stakeholders in Business Unit Leadership, Sourcing, Marketing, Digital Studio, and Sales. The Engineer II - Optics is responsible for leading the technical design, engineering, development & testing of assigned products, with a key emphasis on outdoor connected device cameras with various end use applications – game & predator monitoring, birding, farm, & property security).
This position reports to the Director of Engineering - Optics and is based out of our Bozeman, MT office.
As the Engineer II - Optics you will have an opportunity to:
- Project Leadership: Own and drive electrical and/or mechanical engineering specifications for assigned Optics products, with an emphasis on connected devices, while operating in a collaborative environment alongside colleagues in industrial design, connected devices engineering, and category management leadership. Proactively maintain close connection with internal quality assurance to optimize product performance, quality, & cost
- Technical Engineering: Oversee all engineering technical requirements from initial design concept to prototype creation, inclusive of CAD design, with an emphasis on integration of electronic systems into finished products while remaining sharply focused on delivering on time, on quality, and on cost.
- Project Definition: Define and develop assigned product requirements & specifications in alignment with product briefs & in collaboration with business unit leadership. Ensure products meeting all regulatory & compliance requirements including certification review with the appropriate regulatory entities.
- Continuous Improvement: Work closely and collaboratively with engineering leadership & Sourcing to create and execute forward looking engineering process improvements along with anticipating future needs of the business so we meet or exceed long term requirements for cost, quality, & innovation. Seek out applicable technologies from adjacent industries, with focus on the discovery and development of differentiated new products and maintain a robust library of technology/products and key componentry for assigned product classes.
- Cross Functional Communication: Collaborate with engineering, executive, and cross functional leadership across the organization to consistently understand and meet the needs of the business and manage expectations throughout the engineering and development process. Proactively communicate with manufacturing partners and sourcing team members to track and optimize projects and products.

Licenses/Certifications Required (List required minimum license or certification only):
Specific Skills:
- Highly proficient in the understanding of mechanical engineering principles for application to the sport performance and outdoor optics products spaces.
- Skilled in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD), FEA tools, and possibly programming (e.g., Python, MATLAB)
- Microsoft office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)

Pay Range:
Annual Salary: $100,000.00 - $110,000.00The actual annual salary offered to a candidate will be based on variables including experience, geographic location, education, and skills/achievements, and will be mutually agreed upon at the time of offer.
