Board Certified Behavior Analyst/Behavior Specialist

Position Summary

The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) / Behavior Specialist provides services to students with significant behavioral and/or social-emotional skill deficits that impact learning. The position supports both special education and, on a case-by-case basis, general education students. Services include conducting assessments, designing and implementing evidence-based behavior intervention plans, coaching and training staff, collaborating with families and agencies, and promoting positive behavioral outcomes to improve student achievement and independence

 

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Education, Psychology, or related field.

  • Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification preferred (active or in process).

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in a school setting.

  • Excellent communication, coaching, and collaboration skills.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Assessment & Planning

  • Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and/or Functional Analyses.

  • Develop, implement, and monitor Behavior Support Plans (BSP) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).

  • Identify environmental factors, antecedents, and consequences of challenging behavior.

  • Collect, organize, and analyze behavioral data to guide instructional and intervention decisions.

  • Conduct preference assessments and identify reinforcers to motivate student performance.

Intervention & Direct Support

  • Provide Tier III behavioral support for students with the most significant behavioral and mental health needs.

  • Model evidence-based behavioral interventions and classroom management strategies for teachers and paraprofessionals.

  • Implement and oversee maintenance and generalization plans for continued success across settings.

  • Supervise and support Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) or Behavior Intervention Paraprofessionals (BIPs).

Collaboration & Consultation

  • Work with IEP teams, teachers, related service providers, and administrators to design and support effective interventions.

  • Collaborate with mental health professionals, therapeutic day treatment providers, and other community agencies.

  • Partner with school counselors and other support staff to address student needs holistically.

  • Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and required district meetings.

Training & Professional Development

  • Provide individual and group training to staff on behavior principles, prevention strategies, and intervention techniques.

  • Deliver parent training sessions to promote consistency between home and school environments.

  • Provide ABA-based training across the district, including discrete trial training, pivotal response training, functional routines, functional communication, environmental design, and zone planning.

  • Serve as a restraint program instructor as needed.

Program Development & Evaluation

  • Assist with behavioral Response to Intervention (RTI) planning.

  • Evaluate effectiveness of behavioral programs and recommend adjustments.

  • Support Extended School Year (ESY) programming, including environmental design and behavior planning.

  • Maintain compliance with IDEA, FAPE, and state special education regulations.

Work Environment

  • Works in classrooms, therapy spaces, and school/community settings.

  • Collaborates with multiple stakeholders and agencies to ensure continuity of behavioral supports.
