Position: Manager, Capacity Development – OTR Fleet
Location: Columbus, OH
Job Description:
The Manager, Capacity Development is responsible for the strategic vision and leadership facing recruiting initiatives to include the recruitment and growth of new & current Fleet Owners into the over-the-road Fleet Owner Fleet. The successful candidate will lead our team of recruiters supporting driver recruiting in the support and development of our fleet owners and company driver fleets. The Manager will lead the recruiting team that has primary responsibility for, but not limited to the maintenance of a robust requisition based recruiting system, supplementing the specific needs of our fleet owners and company driver fleets. Additionally, this role will be the primary POC for all potential, new, and existing fleet owners.
Core Responsibilities & Duties:
- Lead a team of professionals with direct responsibility for the recruitment of Fleet Owners, Qualification of fleet owner drivers, and supplementary support of our Company driver fleet.
- Embed yourself in the recruiting team, finding the most efficient means to connect candidates to the most logical opportunities.
- Manage and lead the recruiting team, responsible for growing current Fleet Owners and finding new Fleet Owners to partner with while also qualifying Class A Powerseat drivers for out over-the-road Fleet Owner Fleet.
- Provide mentorship, coaching, and guidance to team members to ensure they meet or exceed established capacity goals.
- Adopt a mindset of constant evolution.
- Maintain a working synergy with the over-the-road Expedited LTL and Local Fleet recruiting operations, as well as other internal departments that leverage cross-functionality between groups
- Remain in touch with recruiting trends via networking, forum membership, targeted conferences, and a constant desire to grow the innovative direction of the recruiting team.
- Fully embrace fleet recruiting data, allowing obvious trends to help dictate the direction of advertising strategies, talent development, and business practices
- Create role-specific scorecards to provide visibility and feedback to a recruiter for continuous improvement and risk mitigation.
- Partner with business leadership teams to evaluate current and future capacity needs and implement strategic plans to achieve desired results.
- Ensure that all recruitment processes adhere to federal and state regulations, company policies, and safety standards. Stay informed about changes in labor laws and regulations affecting the transportation industry.
- Collaborate in the constant evaluation of driver pay, bonuses, and additional incentives.
- Act as the primary POC for problem escalation and resolution.
- Represent the Company with integrity and professionalism.
- Generate and manage application flow for all areas of responsibility.
- Develop strong partnerships and working relationships with Forward Air Drivers and Fleet Partners.
- Maintain ownership of the relevant worklists within Tenstreet software and ensure proper functionality with current needs.
- Identify opportunities to increase accuracy and optimize resource performance by developing, recommending, and implementing solutions and best practices.
- Perform complex analysis of data, processes, policies, procedures and/or systems.
- Compose thorough and detailed written technical documentation, procedures, manuals, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must take an analytical approach when evaluating and deriving business initiatives and problem identification.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

- Ability to present and maintain a positive corporate image in a fast-paced environment.
- Expert knowledge of all DOT rules and regulations pertaining to the qualifications of Drivers.
- Proactively establish and maintain effective working team relationships with all support departments.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
- Experience with CRM or ATS tools (Tenstreet a plus).
Skills:
- The ideal candidate will possess a “can do” attitude with a “will do” work ethic.
- Demonstrate excellent negotiation skills to deal effectively with individuals and groups within and outside the organization.
- Must have the ability to work in a fast paced/high volume sales environment.
- Recruiting/Sales leadership experience within the transportation industry.
