About the Department

Catawba County Public Health is recruiting for a Charge Nurse to manage and coordinate the Communicable Disease (CD), Tuberculosis (TB) Control Program, and the Immunization Clinic. This highly impactful position plays a key role in protecting community health through immunization outreach, disease investigation, and oversight of critical clinical operations.


As Charge Nurse, you will serve as a subject matter expert and supervisor, oversee vaccine distribution and compliance, and manage all aspects of CD, TB Control Program, and the Immunization Program for clients served at CCPH and in the community. You’ll work with a multidisciplinary team, community partners, and state agencies to prevent the spread of infectious diseases and ensure high-quality public health nursing services. This position supervises two float nurse positions and an Administrative Assistant I and reports directly to the Clinical Nursing Supervisor.


SALARY/COMPENSATION INFORMATION:

  • The salary range for this position is $70,171.09 - $115,782.29 for a fully qualified Public Health Nurse. The anticipated hiring salary is $70,171.09 up to $87,713.86 and is negotiable dependent upon specific public health nursing experience. Specific public health nursing includes registered nursing work within a public health department, school nursing, home health/hospice nursing, or other public agencies such as Developmental Education Centers.

Position Duties

  • Lead daily operations of the Immunization Clinic; coordinate mass vaccination efforts such as flu and back-to-school clinics
  • Manage the Immunization program, ensuring efficient clinical operations
  • Manage all vaccine ordering, inventory, storage, and documentation in the NC Immunization Registry (NCIR)
  • Ensure compliance with CDC/ACIP recommendations and NC Immunization Branch requirements
  • Responsible for ensuring all standing orders required for vaccine administration are up to date and that staff are informed of any updates or changes
  • Follow through with immunization services for clients from WIC, Care Management for High Risk Pregnancy (CMHRP), and Care Management for At Risk Children (CMARC) staff or Private Providers. Coordinate with outside immunization and supply representatives and ensure proper in-service deliveries.
  • Coordination of CD investigations, including daily accessing and monitoring of the North Carolina Electronic Disease Surveillance System workflows, managing electronic lab reports, and following up with clients
  • Assists with timely follow-up and investigation of reports of communicable disease
  • Ensure the identification, investigation, and management of TB patients in the community
  • Coordinate care for TB patients, including treatment plan development, medication administration, and compliance with state guidelines
  • Responsible for case management of perinatal hepatitis B cases, including tracking and vaccination follow-up
  • Responsible for case investigation, treatment follow-up, animal quarantine, and exposure outcome assessments in suspect and positive rabies cases
  • Serve as a resource for internal staff and external partners on immunization guidelines, reporting, and client support

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation and 2 years of experience in Public Health Nursing; OR
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited school of professional Nursing and 3 years of professional nursing experience, including 2 years in public health
  • Must be licensed by the N.C. Board of Nursing as an RN

Other Qualifications

  • A valid driver’s license with a safe driving record (Driving is an essential function of this position)
  • Ability to manage multiple programs and priorities in a fast-paced clinical setting
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with both internal and external customers 
  • Effective leadership skills in order to lead, direct, and guide a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • This is considered Light Work, requiring ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 20 pounds.
