JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Development (DD) is responsible for the design and successful implementation of strategies for cultivating major gifts, events, planned to give, and capital campaigns to support Asian Health Services (AHS). The DD will ensure donor communications, promotional materials, branding, and messaging expressed in multi-media including social and visual media aligns with the mission and goals of the agency. The DD will work closely with the Chief Development and Communications Officer (CDCO), the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the AHS Board of Directors (BOD) and the AHS Foundation in identifying, cultivating and stewarding major donors.
Essential Job Functions
Develop near, mid and long-range strategic plans for expanding AHS revenue from major gifts, growing current donors, and cultivating new donors; for planned giving and events; and for developing communication strategies; and activities to support the plan.
Develop income goals for individual solicitations, donor and capital campaigns, events, annual giving, and other campaigns, and engage directly with donors and donor prospects to achieve goals.
Oversee Events and Corporate Sponsorship Manager and Development Associate to ensure the successful management, planning, and execution of effective event fundraisers, cultivation of corporate gifts/sponsorships and timeliness of gift processing, external communications, and mailings.
Oversee design production and distribution of all development and fundraising materials. Work in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications Manager on fundraising efforts that enhance donor engagement, cultivation, and giving.
Oversee department in the development of training, solicitation, and promotional materials to be used by the CDCO, the CEO, and other solicitors for engaging with donors and prospective donors; works closely with AHS video producer to produce promotional material as needed.
Oversee and research donor and prospect to obtain the relevant background of potential donors to shape ask amount and ascertain areas of donor interest.
Grow and maintain a portfolio of donor relationships consistent with the overall development strategy; coordinate with other team members to ensure effective engagement with donors and stakeholders.
Works with the CEO and CDCO on overseeing and supporting the AHS BOD to advance the fundraising strategies and goals of the foundation. Organizes and attends AHS BOD meetings to advance the fundraising strategies and goals of the foundation.
Works with the CDCO to implement and support the AHS Business Council. Organizes and attends AHS Business Council meetings to foster relationships with corporate entities and individuals, also ensures the active link to corporate, technology, and other business partners to broaden AHS support.
Maintain and track individual giving revenue and expense budget throughout the year, reporting revenue and expense data to Fiscal, as needed.
Engage personally with donors and donor prospects; schedules and facilitates meetings including luncheons to connect donors with senior managers and program directors.
Attend community events and fundraising events for the agency.
Strengthens outreach strategies (digital, in-person, media) that attract new donors through increased visibility of AHS and strengthen brand positioning
Composes mission-critical correspondence and publicity for CEO, CDCOs, and other senior managers and the BOD.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Direct supervision of a department involving responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods, and personnel.
Conducts supervisory/managerial responsibilities by the organization's policies and applicable laws including interviewing and hiring of employees; planning, assigning, scheduling, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
General Agency/AHS Duties
Fosters an environment that promotes trust and cooperation among clients and staff.
Enforces clinic policies and procedures, including maintenance of client confidentiality under HIPAA privacy rules, to ensure that the principles of AHS are implemented.
Plays an active role in planning organization-wide activities such as AHS general membership meetings, fundraisers, special clinic days, and other events.
Participates in general membership meetings, fundraisers, and other public events, as required.
Participates in outreach activities, agency advocacy, and serves on ad hoc committees, as requested.
Attends AHS staff retreats and Board of Directors meetings, as required.
Participates in agency-wide quality improvement program processes and performance improvement teams to ensure excellence in the quality of services provided across the agency.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree and five years of experience in the area of individual donor development and events, including three years of senior management responsibility for resource development
Preferred Qualifications
Five to ten years of increasing responsibilities in non-profit management, preferably in community-based health or other social services
Minimum of five years of fundraising and donor cultivation experience.
Knowledge and experience working in the Asian American community
Bilingual/Bicultural in an Asian language/culture.
Master’s degree (M.A.) preferred
Valid California Driver’s License, insurance, and ability to travel as required to perform duties.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Microsoft Office Suite proficiency required, specifically with Outlook, Word, and Excel and fundraising database management software.
