About the Role

Uber is launching AV Labs to accelerate the autonomous technology ecosystem. We're building out a high-velocity team of multi-disciplinary experts to turn real-world operations into high-quality data for our autonomous partners. This team is focused on the hardest problem in AV today: unlocking real-world, long-tail driving data. Autonomy is now a data race-and Uber has an edge: We collect rare, real-world driving data at a scale and capital efficiency no one else can match.

As the Senior Manager of AV System Validation, you will be the operational leader bridging the gap between autonomous software development and real-world physical execution. While owning the overarching validation program and release schedules, your primary focus will be leading the specialized teams that actually execute the testing and evaluation of major components of the core autonomy system. You will directly manage and scale a diverse, high-performing workforce-including highly trained in-vehicle testing engineers, dedicated triage analysts, and quality assurance teams. You will ensure that field operations are flawlessly executed, critical disengagements are rapidly analyzed, and rigorous quality gates are met before any software is deployed for advanced ecosystem evaluation and data collection.

What You Will Do

  • Operational Leadership: Lead the daily execution and strategic direction of the AV System Validation organization, encompassing System Quality Engineering, Release Management, SQA, and Triage & Incident Response.

  • Manage In-Vehicle Testing Specialists: Oversee the System Quality Engineering team-a specialized group of highly trained autonomous operators responsible for in-vehicle system testing, complex data collection missions, and providing deep, qualitative feedback directly to R&D engineers.

  • Direct Triage & Incident Response: Lead the dedicated analytical specialists who investigate vehicle disengagements, categorize field anomalies, and fast-track critical safety or performance issues to the appropriate engineering teams.

  • Release & SQA Orchestration: Own the programmatic schedules and execution of Software Quality Assurance (rigorous system-level testing and regression analysis) and Release Management (orchestrating secure, version-controlled OTA updates to the physical fleet).

  • Closed-Loop Feedback: Act as the critical operational hub connecting physical fleet operations with software engineering, ensuring a rapid, data-driven feedback loop that accelerates the development and benchmarking of the core autonomy system.

Basic Qualifications

  • 6+ years of professional experience in Operations Management, Technical Program Management, or Engineering Management within physical/hardware-software systems.

  • 3+ years of leadership experience directly managing specialized operational teams or testing engineers in L4 AV companies.

  • Proven track record of managing complex physical testing operations, release cycles, and hardware/software integration programs.

  • Experience scaling and managing vendor/contractor workforces in highly regulated, field-operational, or safety-critical environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.

  • Direct experience in the Autonomous Vehicle, specifically leading vehicle operators, test engineering teams, or triage operations.

  • Deep understanding of autonomous validation pipelines (Software-in-the-Loop, Hardware-in-the-Loop, closed-track testing, and real-world physical deployment).

  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate highly technical engineering requirements into actionable, safe operational protocols for in-vehicle staff.

  • Strong familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, issue-tracking systems, and data-driven incident triage processes.
