We're looking for an experienced General Ledger Accountant to join our COFRA team in Porto. You will join a multi-generational family business with a commitment to achieve systemic change across Liveable Cities, Responsible Capital, Clean Energy and Sustainable Food together with our management teams and mission-aligned external partners.

 

About the role

This role is responsible for maintaining the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of the general ledger.

The GL Accountant ensures the proper execution of accounting transactions, supports financial closing processes, and contributes to high‑quality financial statements by applying strong accounting knowledge and internal control principles.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure the complete, accurate, and timely recording and processing of all general ledger (GL) entries.
  • Process all monthly financial accounting transactions in accordance with accounting policies and deadlines.
  • Reconcile and process bank statements in D365FO.
  • Perform ad‑hoc manual payments related to loans, grants, and other transactions; act as a backup for the AP function, including payment execution and AP invoice processing.
  • Prepare and post monthly, quarterly, and annual AR invoices (including intercompany charges) and ensure timely collection of outstanding receivables.
  • Take ownership of intercompany accounts on both the AP and AR sides, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely reconciliation of all related transactions.
  • Review and analyse bookkeeping ledgers, ensuring proper classification and supporting documentation.
  • Conduct monthly and quarterly account reconciliations and maintain ledger accuracy.
  • Execute month‑end closing processes, including accruals, provisions, and other required adjustments.
  • Participate in ERP development and enhancements as a Key User.
  • Assist in audit preparation, including audit files and providing required documentation to auditors.
  • Ensure that all activities comply with internal control policies and guidelines, proactively maintaining awareness of potential fraud risks.
  • Demonstrate solid understanding of IFRS/GAAP and internal control frameworks.
  • Apply experience with intercompany accounting, reconciliations, and resolving discrepancies.
  • Utilize strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret end‑to‑end financial processes.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors.
  • Experience in VAT reporting and knowledge of relevant compliance requirements.

 

What You Bring

  • 4–6 years of relevant experience, preferably in a multinational environment.
  • Degree in Finance or similar.
  • Strong general bookkeeping skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Solid experience with general ledger accounting and period‑end closing processes.
  • Demonstrates a high level of honesty, integrity, accountability, and professionalism.
  • Hands‑on and proactive approach to problem‑solving and daily tasks.
  • Ability to work independently as well as effectively within a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Experience with Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations is an advantage.
  • English (required).
