Health & Safety Consultant – Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

Position Overview

CMI is seeking a motivated Health and Safety Consultant to support the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, primarily within the Public Safety Delivery Center, as part of the Office of Administration’s Safety Program.

This is a hybrid role with telework flexibility; however, the position requires regular travel to worksites not accessible by public transportation and occasional full days in an office environment. Reliable personal transportation is required.

Minimum Requirements (AIPP-Focused)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health or a related field
    OR a bachelor’s degree in any field with a PA L&I BWC AIPP Qualification
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to pass FBI, State Police, and PA Department of Corrections background checks
  • Strong verbal, written, and analytical communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and support two onsite safety professionals supporting Corrections and State Police
  • Supervise OA Health and Safety Specialists as assigned
  • Conduct AIPP assessments, hazard inspections, incident investigations, and program reviews
  • Analyze injury data, identify trends, and recommend corrective actions
  • Develop and deliver safety and health training (in-person and virtual)
  • Support injury and illness prevention, industrial hygiene, and overall AIPP compliance
  • Prepare technical reports and provide recommendations aligned with agency needs
  • Work independently while collaborating closely with agency staff and CMI team members
  • Build strong working relationships across all levels to advance safety culture

Travel  Work Conditions

  • Up to 20% travel, including occasional overnight travel
  • Periodic travel to Harrisburg and other Pennsylvania locations
  • Must be able to work in diverse environments including offices, correctional facilities, and outdoor sites

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to drive for extended periods across Pennsylvania
  • Prolonged sitting during travel or office work
  • Frequent standing and walking during assessments and training
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, crawling, stair or ladder climbing
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
  • Comfortable working in varied indoor and outdoor conditions, including weather exposure
