Description

Responsible for verifying insurance coverage and estimating patient responsibility for patients being admitted for inpatient or outpatient services.  Provides insurance verification when requested. Duties include, but are not limited to, accessing insurance website to verify insurance benefits, establishing calls in computer system when required, preparing billing packets, interviewing patients to verify demographic and insurance information and collect out-of-pocket (OOP) costs.

  • Admission Packets:  Print billing packets daily and rename and move to appropriate monthly folder.  Print eligibility and set up OOP costs in computer system and calculate insurance benefits.  When necessary, call insurance companies and verify benefits, claim information and how to obtain authorization.  Complete Insurance verification with call reference numbers and place with billing packet.
  • Insurance Verification:  When required, pre-verify demographics and insurance information for patients being referred to facility for treatment and open call based on type of referral.  
  • Census: Prepare and balance outpatient and inpatient daily stats and update reports accordingly. Scan and index final census report in Business Office folder. 
  • Financial Counseling:  Estimates patient responsibility, prints promissory and benefit forms. Meets with every patient admitted or calls family members to provide financial options on admission. Set up payment arrangements with self-pay patients. Collects payments when applicable. Enter payments in online payment system.
  • Medicaid Applications:  For all self-pay admissions, meet with patient and request to complete Medical Assistance application if a Nevada resident.   
  • Census Error Report:  Review report daily and resolve all issues on the report.
  • HP Enterprise Pending:  Check all accounts that are in HP pending status to the Nevada Medicaid portal daily.  Make necessary insurance changes when applicable. 
  • Information Request Worklist: Access report daily to resolve claim issues.  May require calling patients for COB issues or calling insurance companies for claim status, once resolved, close work ticket and add collection notes.
  • Mail: Open all mail pertaining to the Business Office, enter comment for authorization, denials and EOB’s.  
  • Deposits: Prepare deposit for any cash or checks received at physical location.
  • Refunds: Review AR for overpayments and if applicable prepare patient or insurance refund.
  • Claims:  Work claims based on several reports distributed by Manager to ensure time claim payment.  Contact patients for balances owed after insurance payments are received.
  • Schedule is Monday - Friday from 6:30am - 3:00pm

Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent required.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ healthcare experience preferred.
  • Previous experience with the Nevada Psychiatric/Substance Abuse Insurance Market required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, and Excel
