Job Details

Fife Council Children & Family Service is undergoing a period of redesign to ensure services offer both an early help and support function alongside core statutory services to improve outcomes for children, young people and families in Fife. We are looking to recruit social workers for our Enhanced Children & Families Teams (EC&F Teams). 

We deal with some of the following core tasks:

  • Assessments of need and risk and taking a lead role in the implementation of plans to deliver care, protection and support to children, young people, and their families, and promote their wellbeing in the community.
  • Work collaboratively with partner agencies to build the capacity of people using services.
  • Make assessments in relation to child protection referrals, carry out investigations and make recommendations related to child protection procedures.
  • Assess and make recommendations about whether compulsory measures of supervision are necessary.
  • Lead Worker for children’s planning for Children and Young People subject to a CSO at home, foster care, kinship care, residential care including secure care placements.
  • Assess and make recommendations about whether a child should be accommodated away from home.
  • Assess and make recommendations for children who may require permanent alternative family care.
  • Provide the social work contribution to any review of the needs of children and young people, including recommendations on behalf of the Council to Children’s Hearings and Courts.
  • Plan rehabilitation and provide support to looked after and accommodated children.
  • Provide written reports and records as required.
  • Embed a family decision making approach which is focused on relationship building with family members through a whole family approach.
  • Identify, assess and manage risk (e.g. MAPPA, MARAC, Strategy Meetings).
  • Safety Planning for Children and Young people at risk of significant harm.
  • Completion of parenting capacity assessments to support care planning. 
  • Coordinate family time and sibling contact.
  • Targeted 1 -1 and group work for example parents affected by harmful substances, young people entering the justice system.

The Person

A Degree in Social Work as recognised by the SSSC.

Experience of direct work with children and families.

Child Protection knowledge and experience.

Permanence knowledge and experience.

Knowledge of child-care law and policy.

An ability to undertake collaborative work with other disciplines.

An ability to work within professional boundaries.

An ability to work well as a member of a team.

Ability to undertake assessment of risk and need.

You will incorporate a strength based trauma informed approach with children and families.

Ability to analyse information and draw out recommendations.

Ability to work towards resolving problems creatively and independently.

An ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of vulnerable children and families.

Registration with the SSSC.

You must have a valid UK driving licence as this post requires you to travel to a variety of locations across Fife (and occasionally) beyond.

We are looking for a practitioner who is empathetic and passionate about working with children and their families, who can demonstrate skill in using trauma informed rights based practice and who can carry out their role with compassion and integrity.

Before confirming to your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.

As this role requires SSSC registration, you will have three months to apply for registration.

If appointed, you must start your application as soon as possible so you're registered within the required six months. 

If you need to achieve a qualification to maintain your SSSC membership, information will be provided if you are appointed. You must ensure you complete the qualification within the specified timeframe.
