Principle Scientist (all genders) - in Vitro CVRI 

 

Join Bayer’s Cardiovascular, Renal and Inflammation (CVRI) research area and play a key leadership role in advancing our kidney disease portfolio. You will lead in vitro pharmacology initiatives from concept to clinical translation, drive scientific innovation, and guide cross-functional teams to develop transformative therapies for patients worldwide.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • You will drive the development of a sustainable renal disease research portfolio within Bayer’s CVRI organization
  • You will hold full accountability for in vitro pharmacology across project teams, providing strategic guidance and acting as Biology Lead where required
  • You will design, supervise, and innovate functional in vitro disease models (cellular, enzymatic, biochemical) to advance renal disease drug discovery
  • You will take a leading role in technology teams, promoting agile resource management and driving technical innovation
  • You will proactively engage in Disease Biology Communities and initiate novel target proposals to expand the CVRI portfolio
  • You will coach and mentor scientists and technical staff, fostering excellence, collaboration, and innovation
  • You will collaborate across disciplines and external partners, ensuring alignment with Bayer’s R&D strategy and safety standards
  • You will develop and implement new research strategies and approaches to advance cardiovascular, renal, and immunology programs

 

WHO YOU ARE

 

  • You hold a PhD in a relevant Life Science field with a strong focus on renal biology, with several years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical or biotech research
  • You demonstrate recognized scientific excellence through high-impact publications and conference presentations in renal disease biology
  • You bring expertise in renal pathophysiology and ideally understand its interplay with cardiovascular, metabolic, or immune mechanisms
  • You have a solid understanding of the drug discovery process and experience with different therapeutic modalities
  • You possess advanced laboratory skills in cell culture, cellular analytics (e.g. flow cytometry, microscopy, imaging), functional cellular assay development, and molecular biology
  • You demonstrate strong leadership and collaboration skills within project teams or matrix environments
  • You communicate complex data effectively across functions and maintain strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
  • You are fluent in English, both spoken and written; German skills are an advantage
