 As a global leader in Stainless Steel, we're seeking a Medium Voltage Technician to be part of our Central Utilities team in Calvert, Mobile, Alabama. 

 

Objective: The Technician is responsible for maintaining, developing, dependable equipment matrices throughout our facility with a variety of predictive and proactive measures with a high focus on working safe.. All safety programs (i.e.: green cards, Safe start, etc.) is mandatory to show ownership in keeping all site personnel safe.                 

Education, and Experience: 

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required
  • Associates degree in Electrical Technology or higher
  • +4 years’ experience working as Medium Voltage Technician
  • Advance knowledge and demonstrate experience in medium voltage distribution systems
  • Skilled at interpreting protective coordination studies, testing and configuring protective relays
  • Familiar with Arc flash and shock hazards of 35kV and below electrical equipment
  • Experience doing Maintenance and testing of switchgears, circuit breakers, panel boards, transformers
  • Experience working with  charge of motor controls, surge protection devices, metering, battery maintenance and testing
  • Experience  working  with power monitoring and power quality
  • Experienced at performing mechanical maintenance, overhaul and reassembly of medium and low voltage circuit breakers
  • Experienced at electrical testing, including but not limited to primary current injection testing, resistance testing, dielectric testing, and thermal scans on medium and low voltage electrical systems
  • Experienced on installation, commissioning and maintenance of low and medium voltage power distribution systems
  • Experienced on installation and maintenance of high bay and exterior lighting systems (480V – 120V)
  • Experienced on installation and maintenance of conduit and cable trays
  • Experienced at utilizing electrical test sets to perform AC and DC high potential testing, transformer turns ratio testing, and other power system tests practices and procedures

 Competencies and skills:

  • Strong in mathematics and science, such calculus, statistics, and other advanced subjects
  • Highly analytical and detail-oriented.
  • Advance logical and numerical skills
  • Design skills
  • Presenting technical information
  • Working safe is paramount

Main Accountabilities:

  • Protective relay maintenance for low voltage/medium voltage distribution systems.
  • Maintenance of high bay and exterior lighting systems.
  • Perform emergency troubleshooting of power distribution systems
  • Perform highly complex service upgrades, reconditioning, retrofits, etc.
  • May provide expert advice, training and technical assistance to support staff and train other employees.
  • Able to work at extreme heights up to 200 feet in areal lift

  • Collaborate with departmental engineers and support staff

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toes shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.) safely per OSHA standards
  • Must have the ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing as a minimum includes stairs and ramps) same as ability to walk long distances and demonstrate good balance on uneven terrain or maneuvering obstacles
  • Ability to withstand exposure to elevated ambient temperature for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to work in extreme heat
  • Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, vibrations, dust and asphalt
  • Must be able to work in a high noise environment where the use of hearing protection is required
  • Ability to frequently use hand or fingers to handle or feel objects/materials
  • Ability to work in areas with strong magnetic fields
  • Bend, twist, lift, stand, walk, reach, see, move, and hear as required by specific position 
  • Ability to frequently reach with hands and arms
  • Must be able to communicate utilizing radios, phones and/or intercom systems 
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work including lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs. utilizing proper lifting techniques
  • Ability to safely use power and hand tools 
  • Ability to safely operate powered industrial vehicles and equipment for tasks and diagnostic purposes, including overhead cranes. 
     

 

 

Salary rate: 34.27
