Salary Range: $60,000.00 to $80,000.00 Annually. Salary will be dependent upon experience.
Summary:
Matrix Design Group seeks a highly motivated Research Analyst to support our growing portfolio of housing, economic, and demographic studies for clients across the U.S. This position offers the opportunity to play a leading role in developing quantitative reports that inform community planning, housing policy, and economic development initiatives.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical proficiency in R programming and statistical analysis with exceptional writing skills. You will analyze datasets from sources such as the U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, and local property assessor data, helping to produce high-quality deliverables that translate complex findings into clear, actionable insights.
Essential Functions:
- Lead quantitative analyses of housing, economic, demographic, and socioeconomic trends using R.
- Develop reproducible code, data visualizations, and statistical models to support planning and policy studies.
- Clean, merge, and analyze data from multiple public and proprietary sources.
- Draft analytical sections of reports, clearly communicating technical results to general audiences.
- Contribute to methodological design, quality control, and documentation of analytic workflows.
- Collaborate with project managers and subject-matter experts to meet deadlines and ensure analytical rigor.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, Economics, Public Policy, Urban Planning, or a related field, with coursework in statistics or data science
- Demonstrated research experience involving quantitative analysis and statistics, such as an honor’s thesis
- Proficiency with the R programming language and environment (tidyverse, ggplot2, etc.).
- Strong writing and data storytelling skills; ability to distill technical findings into accessible prose.
- Valid driver's license, in conjunction with successfully passing the Company’s MVR screening.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Public Policy, Economics, Political Science, Urban Planning).
- Experience preparing deliverables for government or nonprofit clients.
- Experience with spatial data or GIS.
- Experience with economic impact analysis using IMPLAN or REMI.
