The Opportunity
Moonee Valley City Council is seeking a dedicated and customer-focused Library Resource Technician to support the delivery of high-quality library services across our branches. In this role, you will contribute to the acquisition, maintenance, and promotion of physical and digital collections; provide guidance and supervision when rostered as the senior person on duty; and support the continuous improvement of our library systems, resources, and processes. Key Responsibilities
- Deliver proactive, high-quality customer service across all library branches, assisting patrons with enquiries, technology, digital resources, and equipment.
- Undertake branch duties including opening and closing procedures, circulation desk shifts, and support across various locations.
- Provide supervision, leadership, and training to staff when acting as the senior person on duty, ensuring smooth daily operations.
- Support the acquisition and maintenance of library collections, including sourcing, ordering, and promoting physical and digital materials.
- Liaise with external suppliers, vendors, and partner libraries, assist with statistical reviews, track expenditure, and monitor budgets.
- Undertake administrative duties including monitoring shared inboxes and phones, processing incoming and outgoing materials, and supporting rostering processes.
Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate will bring strong customer service capabilities and experience working in a public library environment, supported by demonstrated skills in information provision, research, and the use of library management systems. You have well-developed digital literacy, with the ability to assist others in using computers, mobile devices, online resources, and digital collections. Your organisational and time management skills enable you to prioritise tasks in a busy environment, and you communicate effectively with a wide range of people while contributing positively to a collaborative team culture. A Diploma of Library and Information Services (eligible for ALIA Library Technician membership) is essential, along with the ability to apply sound judgement, uphold Council values, and contribute to a child-safe organisation.
