Responsible for providing primary security in the courtroom, for the judges, and secondary security for the courthouse; handles jury and communications between the judge and the jury during trials; responds to emergency calls from other courts and offices in the courthouse; escorts jurors to and from their vehicles in the parking lot; escorts judges to meetings outside the courthouse as necessary; retrieves files from various offices in the courthouse during trial; makes lists of all who fail to appear for their arraignments; brings inmates from jail for their court appearances; make lawful arrests of persons of necessary or warranted and performs other security-related duties.

Position Duties

  • Provides security for judges and individuals in the courtroom;
  • Calls witnesses for legal proceedings in the courtroom;
  • Provides security for individuals and personnel in District Judge's office, and the courthouse in general;
  • Responds to emergency calls in courts and offices in the courthouse;
  • Coordinates with other courts, bailiffs, and judges for security in high profile trials;
  • Escorts inmates from detention center to courthouse for court appearances;
  • Escorts jurors to and from their vehicles in the parking lot during trials, and provides security for jurors on breaks outside the courthouse;
  • Makes coffee and serves beverages for jurors;
  • Escorts judges to high profile meetings outside the courtroom;
  • Answers telephone, transfers calls, and takes messages when needed;
  • Assists in transporting juvenile offenders to and from the courthouse, if needed.
  • Make lawful arrests of persons as necessary or warranted.
  •  Checks on defendants in custody while in the courts holding cell.
  • Keeps log of times the defendants are checked on.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduation or its equivalent, plus at least five years of experience as a law enforcement officer.

Basic Peace Officer Certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) .
