About the Department

The Community Development Department is seeking a temporary, hourly intern to assist staff with multiple administrative tasks in support of department functions.  Tasks may include duties such as scanning, filing, assisting customers, correspondence, gathering data, producing outreach materials, research, etc.  Candidates with an educational background in planning and an interest in learning about municipal planning functions are preferred.

Position Duties

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Knowledge of:

  • basic principles of public administration, modern office practices, procedures and appliances is desired
Ability to:
  • perform basic to advanced clerical work with speed and accuracy
  • understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • operate standard office equipment/machines such as personal computer, calculator, copier, fax machine, and scanner
  • maintain a variety of records and files and prepare related reports
  • effectively and tactfully communicate in both oral and written forms
  • establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties
  • speak English/Spanish highly desirable
  • communicate with diverse groups and individuals required

Minimum Qualifications

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends for, meetings, events and activities.
  • Must participate in relevant training sessions.
