Your team:

You will be part of IG’s Enterprise Data department, a global technology function responsible for delivering a unified, secure, scalable, and high-quality enterprise data and messaging ecosystem. Our mission is to build and evolve IG’s Enterprise Message Bus and Streaming Platform, enabling reliable and real-time data flow across the organisation. You will join a collaborative, technically strong team continuously innovating to maintain IG’s industry leadership.

Your role in the Team’s success:

In this role, you will design, build, and enhance high-volume, low-latency messaging services using Kafka, JMS, and Java. You will shape and evolve IG’s Enterprise Messaging Bus architecture in collaboration with architects, tech leads, and specialised messaging teams. Your work will directly influence how real-time data flows across the organisation and will strengthen IG’s event-driven capabilities. As a senior member, you will guide junior developers, contribute to engineering best practices, and solve complex architectural challenges that impact enterprise-wide systems.

What you’ll do:

• Design, develop, and optimise high-throughput, low-latency services using Java, JMS, and Kafka.

• Build and enhance event-driven and streaming architectures used across IG’s enterprise platforms.

• Collaborate with architects and domain specialists to evolve IG’s unified messaging and streaming ecosystem.

• Work across both private and public cloud environments, ensuring scalable and resilient messaging solutions.

• Conduct code reviews, enforce engineering best practices, and mentor junior developers.

• Analyse and solve complex architectural and performance challenges affecting enterprise data flows.

Desired Skills & Qualifications

• 8-12 years of experience in Java development

• Strong expertise in Event Driven Architecture and messaging systems

• Financial industry trading experience or similar, with an understanding of the business impact of messaging properties/behaviors

• Recent JDK experience (JDK 8/11 Open JDK or higher)

• Hands-on experience with both private and public cloud environments

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab CI).

• Hands-on experience with container orchestration tools (e.g., HashiCorp Nomad).

• Experience in mentoring junior developers and conducting code reviews

• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle complex architectural challenges
