Job Description
This role will act as the single Caterpillar point of contact at the key mine site for Caterpillar, dealer, and customer. This position will work to improve the performance of Caterpillar Technology Products at the customer sites, work in partnership with the Dealer Site Manager and Caterpillar Site Performance Manager (where applicable) to support all Caterpillar business at the site, and develop, implement, and manage product support processes and equipment management processes at the mine site. One of the key job roles specific to this site will be the management of both the Caterpillar on-site validation activities, as well as the ongoing Autonomous Haulage Operations (AHS) operations.
Job-Related Statistics:
Site: Quellaveco.
Machine Population: Large production fleet and support equipment.
Performance: Implementation and management of the AHS system to meet or exceed the objectives of the Customer & Caterpillar’s business plans/contractual agreements and implement enhanced business performance through cost reduction, capacity increase or quality improvement.
Equipment Mgmt KPIs: accountable for sustainable or improved product performance at that site via the AHS system to efficiently meet or exceed the objectives of mine’s plans both short and long term.
Continuous Improvement & Alliance Support and/or Non-Alliance Support: Actively participate as a member of the Mine Operations team to recommend and implement enhanced business performance through cost reduction, capacity increase, or quality improvement.
Post Sale Total Cost of Ownership (TCO): Ensure overall AHS implementation and operations lower the TCO and Cost Per Ton (CPT) for customers lower than manned operations.
Personnel: Indirect Leadership for dealer personnel, sales, and tech and reps; Direct leadership for a team of Technology SMEs.
Job Duties:
Positions partnering indirectly to this position include: Technical Consultants, Service Representatives, Equipment Management Consultants, Customer Continuous Improvement consultants, Applications Engineers, Site Performance Managers, and Service Engineers. Positions reporting directly to this role include: Applications Specialist, Project Engineer, Command Builder, Command Shift Lead, Command Pit Operator, Command Technician, and Command Controller.
This is a heavy coordination role and must be strong in managing the matrix and influencing others. Partner with the customer operations and project managers, Dealer Site Manager, and Caterpillar Site Performance Managers to bring Caterpillar, dealer, and customer resources together to improve the productive performance of Cat mining equipment operated at key mine sites. Co-Develop, implement, and manage operational processes and at the site with the dealer and customer. Establish and maintain high-level relationships with business decision-makers and subject matter experts. Accountable for representing Caterpillar and Cat assigned actions.
Influence and drive Caterpillar all Caterpillar Product Groups and internal partners to accelerate and deliver interim containment and permanent corrective actions and support that mitigate the impact of product and production issues to customer. Influence various Caterpillar divisions to develop the correct new products and services to meet mine’s current and future needs.
The position must be able to work with the dealer, Caterpillar and the customer to deliver the agreed-upon metrics for the site. Maintain key site performance metrics including technology availability, production metrics, operating cost per ton, uptime, AHS fleet utilization, safety, etc. Identify trends and potential issues, draw on the matrix organization through all internal Caterpillar sources to partner with the dealer to identify the root cause, and implement corrective action. Responsible for leading site performance improvements based on data, trends, etc., and for Caterpillar and the dealer on the share of wallet. Manage Caterpillar Business Risk related to commercial activity with the site. Partner closely with the Mining Region Manager, Site Performance Manager, Commercial Manager, and Sales Reps on the commercial opportunity at the site.
Develop, prioritize and implement strategies to address customer needs as well as ensure dealer servicing and support practices align with recovery strategy. Consult with Caterpillar Global Mining leaders, dealers, and districts on business plans and opportunities, as well as site priorities. Coordinate Caterpillar resources in support of site strategy.
This position acts as a consultant to dealer and customer operations and maintenance managers as well as executive management advising on strategic direction for proper equipment selection, product problem management, and equipment management activities. Coordinates Product Problem Resolution at the mine site. Serves as a dealer and customer consultant at the mine site. Direct Caterpillar and dealer activities to assure product health in order to maintain and enhance PINS growth and to reduce the impact of product health issues for all parties. Consult on machine application practices and direct Caterpillar, dealer, customer initiatives such that application practices are tailored to maximize project viability. Review and provide input to operational controls and business practices/procedures to ensure Caterpillar liabilities and exposure are measured and managed.
The position is responsible to contribute to Caterpillar’s “Zero Harm” safety metrics as well as site-specific safety. Serves as the Responsible Person for all on-site Caterpillar personnel and ensures the safety of the overall AHS system.
Must have the ability to work and set priorities for self and for the work team without day-to-day direct supervision. Internal customers include various contacts in a portion of Caterpillar Surface Mining & Technology Regions and Product Groups. External contacts include various Caterpillar dealers and mining companies who purchase services offered by Caterpillar and supply services to mining customers. The position often confronts complex issues or problems which require careful analysis and diagnosis. Problems are often unique and solutions can require original approaches. The incumbent may modify existing approaches or develop new solutions. The incumbent sets priorities and establishes a work plan in order to complete broadly defined assignments and achieve desired results.
Basic Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Experience in the Mining Industry or Machine Technology Experience.
Position requires previous field rep, mine operations, or significantly related dealer and customer support activities within the Continuous Improvement, service, operations, or commercial areas.
Mine Site Experience.
Fluent English
Top Candidate will also have:
Knowledge of Caterpillar Technology products and product application, validation, product problem management, and/or mining operations.
Broad company knowledge and a strong understanding of dealer operations, and field experience are also required.
Excellent interpersonal skills are required in order to deal with sensitive issues, develop others, or persuade others inside and outside the business unit and Caterpillar to take specific actions.
Six Sigma experience is preferred.
Must have the ability to work with people from many different backgrounds and cultures, internally and externally, with the appropriate influence and ability to resolve differences at dealer and customer operational levels.
Must have the ability & knowledge to understand mining cost per ton (CPT) factors.

The location for this position is Arequipa, Peru.
Domestic relocation assistance is available.
This position may require 50% travel. The position is required to travel frequently: up to three full weeks a month, often traveling extensively to remote sites with limited contact to Cat resources.
Shift: 4x3 roster.
