Assistant Supply Chain Manager
Summary
The Assistant Supply Chain Manager is responsible for the daily supervision and operational performance of all supply chain activities within the acute care facility. The Assistant Supply Chain Manager works closely with the Supply Chain Manager and System Director of Supply Chain to develop and implement strategies that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure a reliable supply of materials without compromising patient safety or quality of care.
Key responsibilities
- Operational leadership: Lead and manage the daily activities of the supply chain team, including procurement, inventory management, warehousing, and distribution.
- Performance monitoring: Measure and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and value delivery, tracking data related to cost-effectiveness, supply availability, and operational efficiency.
- Inventory management: Oversee inventory systems, conduct cycle counts and perform regular audits to maintain accurate inventory levels. Manage stock replenishment processes to ensure critical items are always available.
- Vendor and price management: Support in managing vendor relationships, item price file integrity and monitor supplier performance to ensure quality, delivery, and cost objectives are met.
- Cost optimization: Actively seek ways to control costs and improve supply utilization by facilitating product standardization and analyzing supply chain data.
- Staff supervision and development: Manage and train supply chain personnel. Create a supportive environment for staff development and ensure compliance with all departmental and hospital policies.
- Department collaboration: Coordinate with other hospital departments, especially clinical and procedural areas, to understand their supply needs and resolve any issues.
- Regulatory compliance: Maintain a working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and hospital policies to ensure compliance and safe practices.
- Process improvement: Execute a continuous improvement program for all supply chain functions by identifying and mitigating risks and implementing new processes and technology.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: 3–5 years of experience in supply chain management, preferably within a healthcare or acute care hospital setting.
- Technical skills: Proficiency with supply chain management and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software is essential. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel, is also required.
- Analytical skills: Proven ability to analyze data, identify issues, and develop effective solutions.
- Interpersonal skills: Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills to effectively work with staff, vendors, and cross-functional teams.
- Specialized knowledge: Experience with clinical supplies, implants, and equipment is highly valuable.
Working conditions
- This is typically a full-time, on-site position in an acute care hospital setting.
- The role may require work in stressful, fast-paced situations to respond to urgent hospital needs.
- Physical requirements include a combination of standing, lifting, and walking, with exposure to a warehouse environment.
Reporting structure
This position reports directly to the Supply Chain Manager.
