We are currently accepting applications for a highly skilled, safety-focused Slope Mowing Equipment Specialist (Automotive Equipment Operator 2). This position specializes in the operation of slope-mowing and right-of-way vegetation equipment, including purpose-built systems such as the Energreen ILF, John Deere, or similar articulated boom/rotory/flail mowing units.
Candidates must have hands-on experience operating slope mowers on steep or uneven terrain and be comfortable assessing ground stability, monitoring machine position, and working safely around active roadways, ditches, swales, canals, and drainage areas. In addition to slope mowing, this role performs general landscape and debris-removal tasks and may operate skid steers, loaders, zero-turn mowers, bush hogs, brush chippers, chip trucks, and various two-stroke equipment.
This Automotive Equipment Operator 2 (Slope Mowing Equipment Specialist) is located at 4550 126th Ave North, Clearwater, FL 33762. Work schedule: Monday – Thursday, 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
What Would You Do?
- Operation of a slope mower, including Energreen or similar articulated boom/steep-slope equipment.
- Operation of landscape maintenance and tree-trimming equipment.
- Operation of brush chippers and chip trucks.
- Operation of right-of-way brush-cutting and vegetation-control equipment.
- Set up safety signs, barricades, and work-zone protection.
- MOT/TTC setup and traffic flagging duties.
- Ability to perform assignments requested orally or in writing.
- Ability to successfully complete accurate incident, accident, operational, and daily Cityworks entries as well as payroll sheets.
Perform related work as assigned or required in a safe, productive, and efficient manner.
What Do You Need To Have?
- At least 6 months of experience operating a slope mower or similar equipment; or
- A Public Works Academy training certificate for equipment operators; or
- A Pinellas County employee equipment certification with job-related equipment; or
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Licensing & Certifications:
- Possession and maintenance of a Florida Class B CDL with Air Brake endorsement within 6 months of hire.
- Pinellas County Best Management Practice (BMP) within 6 months of hire.
- FDOT Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) certification within 6 months of hire.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to work a variety of schedules, including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
- Mandatory first responder worker for storm/hurricane response.
Other knowledge, skills, abilities, and credentials required for the specific position.
Highly Desirable
- At least 2 years of experience in commercial landscape maintenance or right-of-way, road-median, ditch/swale work.
- Experience using Energreen, Alamo, or John Deere slope/boom mowing equipment.
- FNGLA Certificate.
- ISA Certification.
- Heavy Equipment Operator Certificate.
- Florida Pesticide Applicator License (Core + Right-of-Way or Turf & Ornamental).
