STUDENT WORKER JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

  1. Position Information

Title: Research Assistant

Department: School of Business and Communication

Non-Exempt, Part time

Hours: up to 19 hours per week

Location: On-Campus

 

  1. Position Summary

The Research Assistant will support a community-based food security project through data collection, data management, and data analysis activities. This position provides hands-on experience in mixed-methods research, collaboration with community partners, and the development of applied research skills. 

This position supports:

  1. Reports to:

Direct Report to: Associate Professor of Economics and Director of EECE

 

  1. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Maintaining accurate, well-organized records, including data logs, tracking sheets, and research documentation.
    • Supporting data cleaning and basic data analysis under the supervision of the project lead.
    • Helping prepare research materials, reports, slides, and other dissemination products.
    • Contributing to the effective operation and growth of EECE’s community-based research portfolio.

  1. Education and Experience

Minimum

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student at Chaminade University of Honolulu
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0

 

  1. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Interest in research, data collection, and health and well-being topics.
    • Experience with surveys, interviews, or basic data analysis preferred but not required.
    • Ability to learn new tools and follow research protocols accurately.
    • Accountability and a willingness to incorporate constructive feedback.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with peers and campus professionals.

 

  1. Physical Requirements

Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills.  Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.

 

  1. Other Requirements: 
    • This is a Part-time Non-Exempt Student Worker position. The expected work hours are 6-10 per week. Depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required.   Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and a varying schedule.
    • Performs such similar, comparable or related duties as may be assigned or required
    • Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University. Reports unsafe acts/conditions and injuries in a timely and proper manner
