TITLE: Executive Director for the KCKS Foundation of Excellence
LOCATION: Central Office and Training Center
The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22,000 students and 60+ different languages are spoken in the homes of our students. KCKPS is home to Sumner Academy, the #6 highest rated High School in the Nation and #1 High School in Kansas according to the US News rankings.
With Head Start/preschools, 28 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, and 5 college and career academies/high schools, we are the fifth largest district in the state of Kansas and our student population is approximately 56% Hispanic, 24% African American, 9% White, and 6% Asian. To serve our students, the district employs approximately 4,000 employees including more than 1,800 teachers.
JOB GOAL: Execute the Foundation's strategic plan and successfully raise funds for classroom or student enrichment programs aligned to the school district's goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Recommend to the Foundation Board of Directors strategic strategies in the form of a written plan and proposed annual fiscal plan.
- Develop and carry out fundraising activities established by the strategic plan.
- Plan, write and support quarterly Foundation for Excellence Newsletters, Annual Report publications, pamphlets and program flyers.
- Establishes ongoing relationships with organizations, individuals, and agencies who are current or potential contributors
- Acts as a spokesperson for the Foundation, providing timely written and photographic media releases and communications.
- Review requests for program funding and make recommendations to Board of Directors.
- Coordinate and execute special fundraising events
- Develop and implement strategies to research, identify, cultivate and solicit Foundation and corporate sources.
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and meet or correspond with donors and potential Foundation donors.
- Develops and maintain the Foundation website and social media strategies to leverage on-line communications for donor contributions and patron requests.
- Provide regular reports to the Board of Directors pertaining to fundraising efforts, budget, and other topics as requested.
- Ensure compliance with and submission of all reports to governmental agencies and grantors.
- Ensure compliance with policies that govern the Foundation and school district.
- Must have strong influence and strategic professional relationships within Wyandotte County and KC Metro that can support the growth, visibility, and donor network of the Foundation.
- Ability to lead a team with exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in business administration, marketing, education or related field.
- Evidence of successful fundraising experience, and a minimum of five (5) years’ successful employment.
- Evidence of effective written and oral communication, presentation skills, and experience with social media and mass marketing.
- Preferred: Grant writing experience

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with district personnel, grantors, donors and prospective donors, and the community; ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communications.
Terms of Employment: 261 days
Salary: Established through contractual agreement between the Foundation Board of Directors and the Kansas City, Kansas Public School District
