Japanese Bilingual Sales Promotion Assistant

Who we are:

Established in 1926, Mutual Trading Co., Inc. was originally a small co-op organization for centralized purchasing of basic import foods to service the needs of the early Japanese immigrant society in Southern California. We've grown nearly 100 years old now, and command a premiere position among Japanese foodservice suppliers, as well as fill a key role as "Culinary Ambassador" promoting Japanese foods worldwide. Currently, we import, manufacture, and distribute over 7,000 Japanese foods, beverages, restaurant equipment and supplies.

Essential Job Functions

    Arranges and prepares for delivery of sales promotion newsletter.

    Designs and creates monthly newsletter to promote products assigned by the manager. 

    Creates other promotional materials, such as product brochures for weekly in-house tasting event, menu lists for customers, etc.  

    Enters, updates, and manages sample orders from manufacturers and communicates with manufacturers to answer questions. 

    Collects payment by cash, check, or credit card and performs simple bookkeeping and related paperwork for accounting purposes.

    Manages and organizes promotional materials from manufacturers and distributes the materials to adequate departments in a timely manner.

    Prepares and assists the meetings relating sales promotion, such as sample meetings, sales meetings.  

    Provides support to ensure efficient operation in the department, such as filing documents, creating documents as requested by Department Manager, updating the sales data, etc.   

    Attends semiannual inventory count on designated day, possibly on a weekend.

    Attends Company events and functions outside of normal working hours.

    Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Obligation to answer to all management as requested.

Physical Requirements

    Ability to sit in an office for a majority of the day

    Ability to type for extended periods throughout the day

    Ability to reach, bend, kneel, and lift up to 20 pounds occasionally

    Working Conditions

o    Indoors

Other Requirements

    Business level English – Read/write/speak/listen

    Business level Japanese; Native level Japanese preferred – Read/write/speak/listen

    Maintains a positive attitude and willingness to learn

    Ability to work independently and as a team

    Ability to adapt to frequent changes in assignments and workload

    High School Diploma required. Bachelor’s Degree and above preferred

    1 years of relevant experience preferred 

Knowledge and Skills

    Proficient with Photoshop and/or Canva highly preferred 

    Proficiency with Microsoft Office

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.

    Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

    Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

    Basic mathematical knowledge – markups, discounts, combining/converting measurements,

    counting inventory, etc.

    Knowledge of Japanese foods and sakes strongly preferred
