Position Description

As a Cyber Defense Analyst- Mid, you will be on the front line in safeguarding government digital assets and responding to potential cyber threats. You will play a critical role in monitoring, detecting, and triaging security events to ensure the protection of organizational
assets. This entry-level position supports the Security Operations Center (SOC) by providing initial incident response, collaborating with senior analysts, and contributing to a proactive cybersecurity posture. 

As a Cyber Defense Analyst- Mid, you will work on a SOC team responsible for monitoring security tools (e.g., SIEM, IDS/IPS) and dashboards 24x7x365 to identify potential threats and anomalies. You will be responsible for performing initial triage of security alerts, focusing on investigation, containment, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders to maintain a robust cybersecurity posture. and escalating incidents to Senior analysts based on severity and SLAs.

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in validating alerts to differentiate false positives from genuine threats, using basic investigative techniques.
  • Document incidents, actions, and findings in the ticketing system (e.g., ServiceNow) per established SOPs
  • Support incident response by following predefined playbooks and escalating critical issues to leadership.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of security documentation and knowledge bases.
  • Participate in training to enhance skills and stay current with emerging threats and tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Cybersecurity related field or 3 years of hands-on experience in cybersecurity field. 
  • Ability obtain a Public Trust
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Security+, CySA+, CEH, GCIH) preferred
  • Proficiency with security tools (e.g., Microsoft Sentinel, MS Security Center, MS Defender, Trellix ETP) and network protocols
  • Ability to work in a shift-based, high-pressure environment. Ability to work in a fast-paced, shift-based environment.
  • Excellent communication skills for documenting incidents and collaborating with teams.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to evolving cybersecurity landscapes.
