JOB TITLE: Medical Lab Technologist
LOCATION: Rockville, MD
HOURS: 4 DAY WORK WEEK - Monday - Thursday (Full-Time)
PAY: $36-40/hr depending on experience

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Perform medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases in the areas of hematology, chemistry, immunology, microbiology and urinalysis.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports directly to the laboratory Manager and Medical Technologist.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires full range of body motion and frequent standing and walking short distances. Requires good eye-hand coordination finger dexterity in both hands. Requires vision that is correctable to 20/20 with normal color perception. Requires the ability to hear alarms, instrument/analyzer audible alerts and telephone communications. Requires the ability to effectively communicate both orally and written. Requires the ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens, pathogenic bacteria and toxic substances, i.e. acids & bases.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: (This list is not inclusive)
1. Perform technical laboratory functions, including quality controls, in chemistry, hematology, immunology, microbiology and urinalysis.
2. Perform daily, weekly, monthly and unscheduled instrument maintenance in all areas of the laboratory.
3. Accurately interpret and report laboratory results or values.
4. Comply with all laboratory policies and OSHA regulations related to safety and infection control.
5. Other Duties as Assigned: The assignment of duties to employees is not limited to the content of this job description. Other tasks and assignments may be related to the work usually assigned to the employee, but in some circumstances may be completely unrelated.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of a wide variety of clinical laboratory procedures, instrumentations and methodologies.
- Knowledge of quality control procedures and documentation.
- Skill in performing a wide range of laboratory procedures.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with physicians, supervisors and office staff.
- Skill in identifying and resolving technical problems.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to follow written protocols.
EDUCATION
Associates of Science{AAS) degree in Medical Technology.
CERTIFICATION
ASCP{or equivalent) as a Medical Laboratory Technician.
