POSITION OVERVIEW

Under the supervision of the Nursing Manager and Providers, Medical Assistants perform routine administrative and clinical tasks within scope of practice. The Medical Assistant is accountable for performing patient care activities associated with the personal needs and comfort of clinic patients, assisting members of the nursing and clinical team and maintaining a clean, safe environment.


KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Provide superior quality care to patients within the patient center approach in the Acacia Network model.
  • Assistother medical staff as requested while practicing within their scope and limits of training.
  • Assistin obtaining medical history and vital signs.
  • Provide assistancein care planning and care coordination with nursing and clinical teams, providers, and other programs within the agency.
  • Explain appointment procedures, special instructions from providers, and medical procedures to patients as well as address other areas of concern withinscopeof practice.
  • Complete medical records in accordancetoorganizational policy and procedures.
  • Attend staff and organizational meetings asrequested.
  • Demonstrate flexibility with dual roles within the program byassistingwith front desk support, stocking supplies in exam rooms, and asprovidephlebotomy, EKG, and perform various assessment tools with the supervision of nurse manager and providers.
  • Administrative duties include but not limitedto:registration, answering telephones, greeting patients,updatingand filing patients' medical records, filling out insurance forms, handling correspondence, scheduling appointments, arranging intake admission and laboratory services, and handling billing asrequired, daily reports, annual physical and medication take-home review reports and schedules. 
  • Clinical duties include but not limitedto:admission intake,taking medical histories and recording vital signs, PPD implant, collect and prepare laboratory specimens, explaining treatmentprocedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, andassistingthe physician during the examination.
  • Perform additional relevant duties as requested by supervisor/manager and haveabilityto adjust to clinical functions as necessary and perform such tasks withinscopeof practice.
  • Maintain compliance with overall organizational policies and procedures.

REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma/GEDrequired.
  • Associates Degree in healthcareor medical office settingpreferred.
  • Valid and verifiable Medical Assistant Certificationpreferred.
  • Minimum of three (3)yearspractical experience inmedicaloffice settingpreferred.
  • Ability to work ona strong teamof professionals in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Strong interpersonal,organizationaland communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask andto workand function under pressure.
  • Makes decisions within well-defined parameters or the completion ofowntasks only.
  • Computer literate
  • Must obtain Mandated reporter (2 hours) prior to hire date.
