Description: 

Overview of role ILSC Education Group is one of Australia’s largest and fastest-growing language schools, known for the quality, rigour and variety of programs that are tailored to best meet international student needs and interests. Head Teachers (HT) play a key role in the school and are responsible for ensuring the ILSC mission of a transformative learning environment for students and staff at ILSC is consistently upheld by supporting and mentoring ILSC Teachers in their day-to-day roles and responsibilities.

 

The HT is a key member of the National ELICOS Academic Team, reporting to the Director of Studies (DoS), taking guidance from the Assistant Director of Studies [Afternoon/Evening] (ADoS) as appropriate, and working closely with other Australian campus HTs to ensure the continued alignment, development, and overall success of their ILSC campus and of ILSC Education Group. The HT position requires constant collaboration with the DoS, ADoS, Teachers, ELICOS Admin Teams and Student Services Team, to maintain effective communication of ideas and decisions. The HT is energetic, empathetic, approachable, and has strong people skills. They will act as a mentor within the academic team, guiding teachers on ILSC curriculum, policies, requirements, and expectations, supporting the DoS and ADoS in academic operations.

 

The HT works closely with teachers daily, and is instrumental in supporting best practice in learning and teaching, assessment, administration, and continuous professional development. The HT is responsible for modelling and mentoring teachers in classroom management, and ensuring effective teacher induction, training, and development for all ILSC ELICOS teachers. They will represent ILSC core values internally and externally, participating actively in sector Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and Communities of Practice (CoPs).


Job Duties: 

The Head Teacher duties and responsibilities will vary according to teaching load, and include but are not limited to the following:


  • Teach ELICOS classes (up to 25 hours; teaching load to vary based on operational needs)
  • Collaborate with the DoS, ADoS and national ILSC Head Teacher Team for effective Teacher support and continuous teacher and student success [insert job duties]
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Support DoS and ADoS in academic operations such as Teacher scheduling and professional
  • development
  • Contribute to Session Meetings & Professional Development Workshops
  • Ensure Teachers are upholding ILSC Policies & Procedures
  • Assist with new Teacher recruitment
  • Run new Teacher inductions
  • Train and guide Teachers in ILSC Curriculum and Assessment documents and practices
  • Train and guide Teachers in ILSC systems and EdTech software and practices
  • Support and mentor Teachers as needed
  • Undertake Teacher classroom observations, peer observations and team teaching as needed
  • Liaise with and support Coordinators as needed
  • Coordinate Teacher relief and classroom changes
  • Run Orientation, Welcome Event and Placement Tests, and liaise with ELICOS Admin
  • Team as required
  • Monitor class attendance and lesson plan administration
  • Conduct student assessments as required
  • Assist with weekly student notices
  • Assist DoS and ADoS with special workshop organisation
  • Participate in and represent ILSC at external SIGs and CoPs
  • Stay attuned to sector support and opportunities available to Teachers and students
  • Other related duties or projects as determined by the campus DoS and ADoS


Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes: 

  • Passionate about English language teaching and international education

  • Strong communication and mentoring skills
  • Excellent people and coordinating skills
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as within a team
  • Ability to problem-solve under pressure or escalate as required
  • Excellent organisational, administrative and computer skills, including MS Office
  • Solid interpersonal and networking skills
  • Excellent work ethic
  • Current Working with Children Check (as per state requirements)
  • Full Australian work rights
  • First Aid Certificate and Emergency Response preparedness (desirable)


Education and Experience Required

  • Recognised Bachelor degree
  • Trinity CertTESOL, Cambridge CELTA, or Cert IV TESOL (or equivalent)
  • Minimum three years’ teaching experience in quality English language institutions
  • Excellent understanding of TESOL methodology, programs, and assessment practices
  • Experience with online learning management systems and multimodal delivery
  • Demonstrated focus on continuous personal and team professional development
