Position Overview
Under general supervision, the Medicaid Eligibility Specialist determines initial and ongoing eligibility for Medicaid programs. This includes managing case files, verifying documentation, computing income-based budgets, and providing quality customer service. The role may also involve transferring cases to other public assistance units as needed.

Training:
All new Eligibility Specialists 1 will complete a comprehensive 4-week training program covering program guidelines, policies, and procedures to ensure success in the role.

Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Determine eligibility for Medicaid programs using established policies and procedures
- Process applications, renewals, and changes from start to finish
- Communicate with clients regarding rights, responsibilities, and program requirements
- Verify eligibility with limited client contact using available tools and systems
- Prepare and maintain accurate case documentation and correspondence
- Respond to client inquiries and resolve issues with professionalism
- Collaborate with internal staff, external agencies, and community partners
- Ensure compliance with all applicable rules and regulations
- Attend hearings, trainings, and meetings as required

- Strong knowledge of Medicaid policies, procedures, and eligibility criteria
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in using computers and office equipment
- Ability to analyze data, solve problems, and make informed decisions

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours at an accredited college or university
OR - Equivalent education, training, or experience
