Summary:

The Cost Modeling & Data Consolidation Co-op will lead a strategic project to organize, consolidate, and harmonize cost models from approximately ten manufacturing sites within the company’s global packaging network. This role provides hands-on exposure to operations, finance, and data analytics — helping the organization better understand and compare how each site builds and manages its cost models, and where opportunities exist for simplification and standardization.

The successful candidate will help identify key cost drivers, document decision assumptions, and develop a framework that enables clear visibility into site-level performance and cost transparency.

Key Responsibilities

1. Inventory & Assessment of Existing Cost Models

- Partner with Finance and Operations leaders at each site to collect current cost model files, structures, and calculation logic.
- Document the format, frequency, and purpose of each model (e.g., quoting, forecasting, product costing).
- Identify commonalities, gaps, and data dependencies among sites.

Key Outcome: Deliver a comprehensive inventory of all cost models across sites with notes on scope, owner, data sources, and usability.

2. Cost Driver Analysis & Comparison

- Review cost model inputs such as labor, overhead allocation, material usage, and machine rates.
- Compare approaches to identifying cost drivers and evaluate alignment finance, technical and operations teams - Visualize differences and highlight potential best practice for analysis and management

Key Outcome: Develop a Cost Driver Benchmark Report summarizing the major drivers and assumptions that most influence cost accuracy and decision quality.  (By region, by site for cost analysis to determine profit levels.)

3. Consolidation & Standardization Framework

- Recommend a logical structure for consolidating site models into a unified template or tool.
- Map data sources (production data, labor rates, material costs) for integration consistency and controls to ensure ownership of what components of the model.
- Propose standard definitions and guidelines for model updates and version control.

Key Outcome: Produce a draft consolidated cost model framework that demonstrates how key drivers can be compared and rolled up across multiple sites and propose owners for which components and assumptions in the model.

4. Communication & Visualization

- Create visual excel dashboards or summary tables highlighting cost driver comparisons and model differences.
- Present findings and recommendations to the R&D, Marketing, Operations Finance team and site controllers.
- Help design documentation or training materials to support long-term adoption of the framework.

Key Outcome: Deliver a Cost Model Insights Presentation for leadership summarizing opportunities for standardization and decision transparency.

Skills & Qualifications

- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Supply Chain, Data Analytics, or Business Administration.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills; proficiency in Excel, and exposure to Power BI, Tableau, or SQL preferred.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to interpret and structure financial or operational data.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Interest in cost modeling, process improvement, and data visualization.
- Comfortable working with cross-functional stakeholders across multiple sites or time zones.

Learning & Development Opportunities

- Gain hands-on experience at the intersection of marketing, R&D, finance, operations, and data analytics.
- Learn how manufacturing cost structures are built and used to support pricing, profit analysis, and investment decisions.
- Develop skills in process documentation, data harmonization, and dashboard creation.
- Present analytical insights to senior operations and finance leaders.
- Build a tangible project portfolio document demonstrating impact on operational decision-making.
