POSITION SUMMARY
This position will assist the Miami Tribe Relations Coordinator to advance Miami University’s educational partnership with the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma and provide ongoing support for Myaamia students enrolled at Miami University.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Advising & Support
Assist in the ongoing support for Myaamia students enrolled at Miami. Tasks include:
Coordinate programing for Myaamia student group events and develop enrichment activities for small cohorts of students.
Provide Myaamia student cultural and intellectual mentoring infusing Myaamia worldview and cultural knowledge into the Miami University educational and life experience.
Assist in organizational details for EDL 1-credit class series, including senior independent projects that coordinate the student’s accumulated Myaamia knowledge with academic major.
Attend Miami Heritage class and student events as needed.
Advancing Miami Tribe Partnership—Tasks include:
Attending Miami University and Miami Tribe events/activities including planned work sessions in Oklahoma.
Assist in organizing and/or hosting trips from Miami University to Miami Tribe annual cultural events or other planned activities.
Hosting visits to Oxford from representatives of the Miami Tribe.
Make connections with Miami University departments and divisions to strengthen the ongoing relationship.
Additional Responsibilities – Tasks Include:
Organize and/or support the outreach work of the Miami Tribe Relations Office.
Engage with Myaamia alumni .
Help with organization of Myaamia Center events, including the Myaamiaki Conference.
Other duties as determined.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: This position requires a bachelor’s degree, conferred by the first day of employment as well as the proven ability to effectively work with diverse populations and to supervise others. Applicants must show understanding of, or interest in, Myaamia language, culture, and education.
Consideration will be given to applicants with Master’s degree in education, student affairs, counseling or human development, or a related field; post-baccalaureate experience in education settings and an understanding of student development; experience engaging with Myaamia community members and educational events preferred; able to work independently; demonstrate initiative; display strong commitment to student learning; communicate effectively; work collaboratively with stakeholders inside and outside of the University.
Additional Position Information (if applicable)
Travel – This position requires travel (some weekends) for Myaamia community events, conferences, or to visit other Universities to share information about the Miami-Miami Tribe relationship and/or student retention strategies.
