The Transportation Project Coordinator serves as a project manager and departmental liaison, for the City’s transportation, mobility, and traffic initiatives. The position provides leadership, technical oversight, and administrative management in developing and delivering projects within the City’s Transportation Capital Improvement Program (CIP). The position is responsible for coordinating all aspects of transportation project planning, funding and execution while ensuring alignment with City’s priorities and compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Work involves coordinating consultant teams, guiding interdepartmental coordination, and serving as a key point of contact for regional partners, contractors and the public. This position operates with a high degree of independency and judgement, representing the City in project discussions, grant applications, and technical reviews, while ensuring accountability, budgets, and outcomes. The Transportation Project Coordinator helps drive continuous improvement in project delivery and communication processes.

Position Duties

  • Assists in the planning, design, and implementation of projects within the City’s Transportation CIP and related funding programs, coordinating with other Public Works Divisions and the Growth Management Department.
  • Assists with project scoping, schedules, cost estimates, design deliverables, and project documentation for both design and construction phases.
  • assists with transportation, mobility, and traffic operational analyses, including data gathering, research, and development of recommendations for capital projects and multimodal improvements.
  • Supports procurement and management of professional engineering and transportation services, including coordination of subconsultants and review of invoices, purchase orders, and budget documentation.
  • Supports grant application preparation and assists with grant administration and reporting requirements. Assists with tasks related to LAP process training and compliance.
  • Coordinates project meetings, prepares meeting minutes, distributes action items, and ensures follow-up with consultants, contractors, and partner agencies.
  • Assists with the preparation of City Commission agenda items, staff reports, project updates, exhibits, and public information documents.
  • Serves as a secondary public contact for transportation inquiries, routing constituent requests and information to appropriate staff.
  • Coordinates the preparation and facilitation of public involvement notices, meeting materials, presentations, and outreach content for City projects and initiatives.
  • Assists with organizing community meetings related to departmental projects, coordinating logistics, handouts, schedules, and follow-up communication.
  • Supports development, organization, and updates to internal SOPs, project checklists, directories, and administrative tracking tools.
  • Manages or assists with administrative tasks such, contract routing, agenda routing, project correspondence, and pool vehicle coordination.
  • Coordinates with other City departments on process improvements and special projects, providing administrative and organizational support as needed.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to support staff, interns, or technical personnel assisting with transportation projects and administrative processes.
  • Manage the streetlight maintenance program, technical reviews, maintenance contracts and field reviews in coordination with the City Engineer.
  • Drives to and from various City locations, consultant offices, or agency meetings.
  • May be required to remain on-site for extended periods (three days or longer) to support Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activities during hurricanes or major storm events.
  • Performs additional duties across functional areas as assigned.
  • In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential and may be required to perform duties outside of their normal job description.
  • Complete required trainings as specified within the City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, Planning, Public Administration, or a closely related field; and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in transportation project coordination, public works, traffic operations, planning support, or related project assistance role. (An equivalent combination of training, education and experience may be considered.)
  • Experience preparing reports, project notices, agendas, or project documents 
  • Valid Driver License.  Must obtain Florida driver license within thirty (30) days of employment.

PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Planning, or a closely related field.
  • Engineer Intern (EI)
  • Experience supporting transportation, mobility, capital project delivery, or traffic operations.
  • Experience preparing reports, public notices, agendas, or project documents for municipal programs.
  • Experience working with grant-funded or CIP projects.
  • Willingness to adopt AI and emerging technologies.

Other Qualifications

Applicants will be required to complete a Disclosure & Authorization Regarding Background Investigation, a Confidentiality Agreement and a criminal background screening.

Driving history for the past three (3) years must reflect no violations of a driving related felony offense, or driving under the influence (DUI) which includes both drugs and alcohol, reckless driving, or hit and run involving an occupied vehicle or attended property, or an accumulation of traffic violations, plus three (3) points for each attendance at driving school (regardless of whether points were assessed against the license) where the penalty points do not exceed twelve (12).
