Job Description

As the Records Specialist on our Enterprise Risk and Compliance team, you will work across all areas of Best Buy to promote records management best practices. You will be responsible for supporting compliance with retention policies, facilitating exception requests, and contributing to data governance initiatives.  This role supports cross-functional teams in managing records efficiently while owning key processes related to purge compliance, decommissioning, and documentation updates.   

This role is hybrid, which means you will work some days at a Best Buy location and some days virtually from home or another non-Best Buy location. The specific work arrangements vary by role and team.  The recruiter or hiring manager will provide more details during the hiring process. 

What you’ll do
 
Purge Compliance Reviews:
  • Own and manage data purge reviews, ensuring policy compliance, identifying discrepancies, and coordinating resolution with relevant teams.
Exception Requests:
  • Lead the end-to-end process for retention exception requests, including initiating submissions, securing necessary approvals, and partnering with requesting teams to drive resolution.
Decommissioning Support: 
  • Respond to systems, applications, and data decommission questions. 
  • Support teams in identifying records and data topics impacted by system retirement and ensure data topics are marked appropriately. 
Information and Records Management (IRM) Wiki:
  • Maintain the IRM wiki pages, ensuring all content and links are accurate and accessible to users. 
Metadata Repository:
  • Perform cleanup activities within the MDR, identify and resolve any data quality issues, and ensure data integrity, including quality control for data topics. 
General Inquiries and Support:
  • Serve as a point of contact for general records management questions.
  • Provide support and training to teams on records policies and procedures.

Basic qualifications
  • 2 years of information and records management experience
  • In-depth knowledge of IRM processes
  • High attention to detail with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with stakeholders
Preferred qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business
  • Strong understanding of legal and regulatory requirements related to information and records management
  • Experience managing retention and disposition within Microsoft applications
  • Affiliation with Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM) and/or ARMA International
  • Strong knowledge of records management policies and procedures, data privacy issues and electronic data management.
