SUMMARY
OF DUTIES

Reporting to the Senior Project Manager of Capital Projects and coordinating administration of various forestry and horticulture programs and initiatives that focus primarily on community stewardship. Assist in the improvement and development of new programs and initiatives. Liaise with community groups, not-for-profit organizations, and volunteers.

 

GENERAL
DUTIES

Coordinate and support Forestry and Horticulture community stewardship and volunteer initiatives including but not limited to the Free Tree Giveaway, Community Tree Planting, and Invasive Species Management.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with various internal and external stakeholders through various formats including writing requests, making public appearances, and presentations directed at community stewardship.

 

Develop, schedule, and conduct volunteer training sessions and events. Prepare orientation and training materials.

 

Provide program representation and support to program participants and coordinators at times and locations convenient to the programs.

 

Assist in the preparation and printing of promotion and education materials.

 

Investigate opportunities for program appropriate funding through federal, provincial, and other subsidies and grants to improve current community programs and offset program expenditures. Assist in submitting applications and submit required reporting.

Assist with planning and monitoring program budgets, including applicable reporting for grant funding.  Establish, monitor and maintain volunteer program agreements, and prepare associated reports as required.

 

Lead the preparation, presentation, and operation of community stewardship recognition including in-person events, and through social media applications.

 

Create and monitor KPI and performance measures related to the core job functions.

 

Works in accordance with the provisions of applicable Health and Safety legislation and all City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.

 

Performs other duties as assigned which are directly related to the major responsibilities of the position.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1. Preference for completion of post-secondary education related to Public Relations, Volunteer Management, Environmental Studies, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
  2. Previous experience working in an environmental field with a good understanding of industry legislation, acts, by-laws, policies, and procedures.
  3. Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing community stewardship programs and initiatives including maintaining records and reporting program accomplishments.
  4. Demonstrated experience and understanding of communication mediums including webpages and social media applications.
  5. Demonstrated experience working in a computerized environment. Must possess excellent computer skills with above-average knowledge of MS Office software with special emphasis on Excel, Teams, and Sharepoint.
  6. Demonstrated experience working with ESRI products including ArcGIS applications (Online, Survey123, StoryMaps and Field Maps).
  7. Demonstrated experience in successfully applying for and securing grant funding related to community stewardship and the environment.
  8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively through training and presentations to volunteers, the community, public/private sector, staff and all levels of management.
  9. Demonstrated ability to work independently, in a team environment, and with community volunteers.
  10. Possession of a valid Class “G” driver’s license with clean abstract.
  11. Must be flexible in work schedule and available to accommodate, through overtime or flex-time, community programming (i.e. Saturdays).

 

SALARY: Salary Grade G

 

HOURS: 35 per week
