Role Overview
The District Studio Manager (CA) is a multi-unit operations leader responsible for the day-to-day excellence, compliance, and member experience across multiple California studio locations.
This role rotates across all California studios under FitLab to ensure consistent execution, operational alignment, and team support.
This position requires a hands-on operator who thrives in fast-paced environments, balancing tactical execution (labor management, facilities, payroll, compliance) with people leadership and member engagement.
The DSM will partner closely with the Senior Manager of Studio Operations in overseeing CA and ATX markets to ensure each location meets operational standards, delivers premium experiences, and maintains brand consistency.
Key Responsibilities
Operational & Multi-Studio Leadership
- Oversee day-to-day operations across multiple California studios, ensuring adherence to cleanliness, safety, and brand standards.
- Monitor scheduling, payroll accuracy, and labor efficiency in alignment with company policies and compliance requirements.
- Partner with Facilities, Vendors, and internal teams to manage maintenance, service requests, and proactive equipment care.
- Oversee retail operations including inventory management, merchandising, receiving, and reporting.
- Audit and uphold operational procedures—covering opening/closing standards, safety protocols, and emergency preparedness.
- Review performance reports (labor, payroll, member KPIs) to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain accurate operational documentation, compliance records, and studio checklists across all locations.
- Lead rollout and adoption of new systems, initiatives, and training to ensure consistent execution and operational excellence.
- Continuously identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, consistency, and member experience.
People Leadership & Development
- Support hiring, onboarding, and training of studio staff across assigned locations.
- Conduct regular field coaching, feedback sessions, and performance conversations to reinforce professionalism and hospitality.
- Partner with HR and Studio teams to address employee relations, compliance, and payroll accuracy.
- Act as an escalation point and provide leadership coverage for studio teams when needed.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and accountable workplace culture that reflects company values.
Member Experience & Community Engagement
- Champion a hospitality-first experience across all member touchpoints.
- Respond to member feedback and service concerns promptly and professionally.
- Drive engagement and retention through milestone recognition, personalized outreach, and surprise-and-delight experiences.
- Collaborate with studio teams to execute local activations, challenges, and partnerships that strengthen community and loyalty.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Experience: 4–6 years of multi-site or high-volume operational management in fitness, hospitality, or premium service industries.
- Skills & Attributes:
- Strong operational acumen with proven expertise in scheduling, payroll, and facility management.
- Effective communicator and cross-functional collaborator across field and regional teams.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask in dynamic environments.
- Member-first mindset and strong problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in studio management systems (ClubReady, Mindbody, Humanity, or similar).
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 45 lbs, and travel between studio locations regularly.
- Availability: Must be flexible for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and events. Travel within the CA region required.
