Under the directions of the Nursing Director, the Nursing Associate Director will be assisting with the operation of a successful premier practical nursing program. The Nursing Associate Director assists in the fulfillment of educational goals and objectives, and ensuring program compliance with regulatory and accreditation agencies, as applicable. These responsibilities require leadership in both academic and workforce areas and include meeting student retention goals, directing and participating in educational planning, program organization, staffing, training and supervision of both full- time and part-time faculty, evaluating program faculty and student performance, motivating, and advising students. The individual that serves as a Director of Nursing is a faculty member who serves as a liaison with the administration of the College, while also performing administrative functions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Participate in staff/headcount planning, interviewing/selecting, orienting, and mentoring of faculty.
  • Assign and/ or support student placement at external clinical sites
  • Manage student orientation.
  • Review student files/records, including documentation required for student clinical placement
  • Teach some non-clinical courses.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Practical Nursing Program students and responds to day-to-day issues.
  • Other duties and project participation as assigned

KNOWLEDGE – SKILLS – ABILITIES:

  • Engage in retention activities including identifying at risk students.
  • Assist students with academic advice, and mentor instructors on effective academic
  • counseling as needed.
  • Ensure student documents meet site standards for clinical placement by delegating to appropriate personnel.
  • Assist the Program Director with preparation of reports for state and federal agencies, maintain supply inventory, anticipating department needs, and maintain requisitions and cost allocations
  • Provide positive leadership and direction to faculty.
  • Actively participate in the recruitment of faculty/staff.
  • May be required to teach when needed.
  • Attend all faculty meetings and required staff development sessions.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills as well as active, empathetic listening.
  • Ability to motivate, guide, and help students complete their program of study and faculty to mentor and educate.
  •  Ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions; great communications skills.
  • Must be resourceful and able to problem solve, strong initiative and solid judgment
  • Must be reliable with strong time management skills and ability to work well under pressure
  • Must be able to work independently as well as in groups; and must be able to meet deadlines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN)
  • At least five years full-time experience in the practice of nursing as a Registered Nurse or part-time equivalent.
  • A minimum of two years of teaching experience in a professional registered nursing program as a faculty member.
  • Active, unencumbered licensure in the State of Michigan as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current American Heart Association Compliant Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

WORKING / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • May require working late night or weekends
  • The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit for extended periods of time; and have sufficient hand, arm and finger dexterity to operate a phone, computer keyboard and other office equipment.
