Job Description

The Category Manager is responsible for driving category strategies to achieve Best Buy Business commercial channel growth initiatives, with the primary goal of maximizing sales and margin.  As a Category Manager, you will develop category assortment strategies, identify key vendors, determine strategic pricing cadence, and create go to market plans focused on the B2B/Commercial channel.  Additionally, you will strategically drive and maintain vendor relationships, and partner with cross-functional teams to mobilize against established strategies.  Sales support is a critical function in this role; driving solutions, negotiating on large opportunities, identifying emerging markets and categories are all critical responsibilities.  The Category Manager will also play a critical role in collaborating with Best Buy Core merchants – aligning and adopting broad Best Buy strategies to the Commercial market, identifying opportunities to leverage Core strategies & tactics to the Commercial customer are key functions.  The Category Manager will be expected to lead major strategic initiatives within the Team.  Working with cross-functional partners to eliminate roadblocks, establish new policies, and drive for transformative change within the organization are key responsibilities in this regard.  The Category Manager will need to demonstrate strong organizational skills, be capable of applying analytical methodology to problem solve and make decisions, and consistently prioritize within a rapidly changing business environment.

This role is hybrid, which means you will be required to work core hours on-site at the Best Buy Corporate office in Richfield, MN  three days a week and virtually from home or other non-Best Buy location the remainder. What you’ll do
Category Strategy Development
  • Directly responsible for building commercial channel focused Category Strategy that will be implemented across Best Buy Business cross-functional teams (Marketing, Training, Operations, etc.)
  • Identifies and compiles industry trends, historical sales, vendor opportunities and BBY Direct competencies
  • Effectively communicates Category Strategy across Best Buy Business
Vendor & Core Relationship Management
Works directly with key vendor partners to identify and implement opportunities to drive the business
  • Primary Best Buy Business contact for both Vendors and internal cross-functional partners across day-to-day interactions and monthly / quarterly business rhythms across BBY Direct vendors
  • Represents Best Buy Business with Category Merchant team, working closely to implement programs to drive direct channel business.

Assortment Planning
  • Responsible for commercial channel assortment, pricing, and promotional strategy across Best Buy Business channel
  • Works closely with Best Buy Business Sales team to define needs of B2B customers
  • Execute assortment and pricing parameters within BBY Direct systems
Financial Review & Analysis
  • Weekly / Monthly Business Performance Management
Drive Strategic Captainships
  • Identify and Lead Strategic Initiatives across Best Buy Business cross-functional team (Sales, Operations, etc)
Sales Support
  • Actively support sales opportunities across customer and vendor-specific opportunities
Basic qualifications
  • 1 or more years sales enablement
  • 1 or more years traditional Merchandising support experience (Buyer, Demand Planning, Analyst)
