What We’re Looking For:
Michael Baker International is seeking a Civil Associate II, Water Resources for our Hamilton NJ office. As part of our Water Practice, the successful candidate will be in our growing Surface Water group. This person works under the direction of a Civil Engineer, Task Leader and/or Project Manager on drainage design for both civil roadway design projects such as roads, bridges, rail, and airports as well as stand-alone roadway and riverine flood control projects. You will leverage your engineering knowledge and skills to assist in the preparation of basic studies, construction documents, drawing, maps, reports and supporting documentation and calculations. Depending on your experience, you will use CADD techniques as well as other specific drainage software packages to prepare construction documents.
What You’ll Do:
- Most days will be spent preparing basic studies, construction documents, drawings, maps, reports and supporting documentation and calculations as well as coordinating with technicians to ensure timely and accurate document or drawing preparation.
- You will also assist with document preparation for regulatory agencies to obtain required permits.
- Use technical manuals to ensure compliance with company policies and applicable standards
- Regularly interface with other departments, clients, vendors, project managers, and project engineers to support production of project deliverables
- On some days, you will make field visits to project sites to investigate, record, and photograph local conditions.

What You Need to Succeed:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, and 2 - 4 years of related experience with hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) models such as HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS.
- Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam (EIT) and preparing for PE.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of stormwater management and principles of hydrology and hydraulics of stormwater runoff. Organized, and determined, with the ability to multitask and prioritize competing project obligations.
- Strong English language skills, written and verbal, are essential to long term success in this role.
- Demonstrated ability to lead an engineering project team including staff development.
- Quickly get up to speed on our policy, procedures and relevant software, while acquiring an understanding of the company’s service offerings, and the client’s standards and procedures relevant to your projects.
- Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to utilize CADD software like AutoCAD and MicroStation and associated interactive design software such as Bentley Inroads Suite; Esri ArcGIS software; and H&H modeling software such as HY-8, Hydraflow, PondPack and HEC-RAS is preferred.
- Familiar with Client Regulations or Can quickly learn: NJDOT, NJTA, SJTA, NJTPA, NYCDEP, Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission, North Hudson Sewerage Authority City of Newark, FEMA, NJDEP, New Jersey American Water, County and Local MUAs, PANYNJ.
Compensation:
The approximate compensation range for this position is $77,000 to $101,000 This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
