Position Title: Physician
Department: Medical Department
Reports To: Medical Director
POSITION SUMMARY
Provides medical services to all patients facility-wide, as directed by the Medical Director.
CATEGORIES OF DUTIES
- Provides physical examinations.
- Diagnoses, treats and prescribes medications under the supervision and written protocol of the Medical Director.
- Orders lab and diagnostic work in conformance with the Medical Director’s written protocol for the treatment of specific illnesses or diseases.
- Performs minor laceration repair and other procedures as needed and supervised by the Medical Director and his/her protocol.
- Shall coordinate with the Director of Nursing Services and the Pharmacist in the ordering, storage and administration of medical supplies and medications.
- Shall provide oversight to Physician Assistant(s) (up to 2) and Nurse Practitioner (up to 1) working in the clinic.
- Other duties as assigned by Medical Director and/or Administration.
- Reviews and approves all protocols approved by the clinic.
- Participates in peer review process pursuant to peer review procedures.
- Participates in Credentialing Committee as requested by the Medical Director and reviews clinical privileges for clinic medical staff.
- Assists in the annual review of Clinic standards and policies.
HIV SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Responsible for team leadership for the HIV treatment team members.
- Responsible for consulting with medical specialists, and is ultimately responsible for the appropriate, legal decision to prescribe all drugs, including narcotics, as necessary, by the authorized medical staff (M.D./P.A./N.P./R.N.) as written in company protocols. Responds to all medical and HIV staff pages for the HIV clinic.
- Shall pay special attention to any and all agency contracts that support the medical services in the HIV clinic.
EDUCATION
PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN: Completion of medical school courses at an accredited college and certification and licensing by the State of California Board of Medical Examiners as a Physician.
HIV PHYSICIAN: Doctorate in Medicine; medical internist residency completion with infectious disease specialty.
EXPERIENCE
PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN: One (1) consecutive year’s experience in a medical facility.
HIV PHYSICIAN: Two (2) consecutive years in a hospital, private, or community practice dealing with infectious disease patients.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN: Family Practice, General Practitioner or Internal Medicine specialty.
HIV PHYSICIAN: Board Certification in Internal Medicine; Further education and certification in infectious disease desired.
