Description
Miami Children's Museum is looking for a skilled and creative Carpenter to join their team!
The Carpenter must have expertise to assist with exhibit development and maintenance. The Carpenter works on the fabrication, installation, and maintenance of in-house, traveling, and off-site exhibitions. The primary focus of this position is on the daily care and upkeep of exhibit components, ensuring they are maintained to a high level of functionality and appearance, and conducting repairs when needed. Candidate must be able to work independently and maintain a strong customer service ethic. Must analyze situations, troubleshoot problems, and deliver appropriate solutions. Experience with electronics is a plus.
Essential Functions:
- Fabricate museum exhibit structures using a range of materials and tools/equipment, including but not limited to table saws, skill saws, pneumatic tools, routers, etc.
- Support exhibit maintenance and repair needs. Where possible, effect immediate repairs and assess the need for changes in design or materials. When required, acquire parts, equipment, or external expertise to assist in effecting repairs.
- Maintain the inventory of building materials and tools/equipment and order supplies.
- Participate in finish and detail work on exhibit components and environments.
- Participate in the development of new exhibits.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Observe safety and risk management procedures in public areas and workspaces.
- Assist in the setup and breakdown of traveling exhibits and special events.
- Facilitate exhibit-related work at off-site locations.
- Occasional travel may be required to install the Museum’s traveling exhibits in other children’s museums.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- 5+ years of related experience
- Skilled in carpentry
- Sound verbal and organizational skills
- Basic knowledge of computers
- Must be able to lift heavy loads
