About the Role
The Production Supervisor – 2nd Shift oversees all aspects of cigarette manufacturing operations during evening production hours. This role ensures that all production lines meet or exceed safety, quality, and output targets while maintaining compliance with FDA, TTB, and OSHA standards. The Supervisor provides leadership to production staff, ensuring adherence to company policies and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
A Day in the Life
Each day begins with reviewing shift handoff notes and production goals from the 1st shift team. You’ll oversee machine startups, verify material readiness, and ensure all team members are equipped with the proper PPE. Throughout the shift, you’ll monitor equipment performance, adjust schedules as needed, and facilitate the response to any quality or maintenance issues. Your focus will remain on promoting a safe, productive environment while leading, coaching, and developing your team.
What You Will Do
- Supervise 2nd shift production activities across assigned manufacturing areas.
- Ensure compliance with FDA, TTB, and OSHA regulations and company safety standards.
- Coordinate staffing, scheduling, and timekeeping for production associates.
- Monitor line efficiency, yield, and product quality to achieve shift KPIs.
- Investigate and resolve production or quality issues in real-time.
- Lead daily start-up, safety, and production meetings.
- Train and coach employees in proper operating procedures, safety, and quality standards.
- Maintain accurate shift documentation, including downtime, scrap, and production reports.
- Communicate effectively with 1st and 3rd shift supervisors to ensure seamless transitions.
- Support continuous improvement, waste reduction, and operational excellence initiatives.
Requirements
What You Bring
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred.
- 3–5 years of manufacturing experience, including supervisory or lead experience.
- Strong knowledge of production operations, machinery, and safety practices.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and team development skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Working knowledge of ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
Nice To Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Management, Manufacturing, or related field.
- Experience in tobacco, food, or regulated manufacturing industries.
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification.
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance and root cause analysis tools.
