Position Summary:
The manager is responsible for leading one or more Laboratory departments in the areas of personnel management, program development, budget development, equipment/supply purchasing, establishment of policy and procedures, quality assurance/improvement, compliance with local state and federal regulations, and other duties as assigned. The manager hires and manages staff, including facilitating training, coaching, and/or disciplining. The position has direct oversight of the laboratory supervisors and assigned technical specialists and indirect oversight of the staff in all assigned areas. This role serves as the main point of contact for operationalizing laboratory-related initiatives and is a critical partner for front-line staff, our care groups, hospital affiliates, and providers. Required Qualifications:
Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:
- Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science or related field.
- Five years of experience as a medical laboratory scientist or equivalent in an anatomic or clinical pathology laboratory environment.
- Three years of leadership experience with increasing responsibility in a clinical or pathology laboratory setting.
- Must be willing to maintain competence through continuing education.
- American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent certification in the applicable educational field.
- Knowledge of personnel management techniques and ability to effectively direct, coordinate and motivate the functions of a laboratory work team in a team environment.
- Knowledge of medical diagnostic testing and quality management methods
- Knowledge of the application of technology to medical laboratory management and operations.
- Skilled in management/leadership role in a team management environment.
- Knowledge of Laboratory operations including personnel policies, safety protocols, accreditation requirements, performance improvement requirements, budgeting, accounting, data processing, marketing, and public relations.

- Masters in Clinical Laboratory Science or business/healthcare administration or related advanced master’s degree.
- Advanced coursework or experience in change management, project management and strategic planning desirable.
- Demonstrated financial experience working with budgets, capital projects, analytical analysis, cost accounting etc.
- Demonstrated analytical, planning, organizational and communication skills.
- Demonstrates knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and assure safety of patients.
- Knowledge of literature and current innovations in products and technologies that have application in work team
